More and more, it seems Netflix is making Fios TV redundant.

Well it depends on why you have FiOS. I would say you are wrong. I had Netflix and canceled after seeing all they had to offer. Netflix with my Tivo and cablecard on the Verizon service worked well. If the VOD library on Netfix increased, they may be getting my business back. I have not used VZ VOD since I installed my Tivo a year ago. If I want to pay for something I can go to Blockbuster, or Amazon on demand and stream it to Tivo. I wonder how much the Netflix will charge, and now I am sure they will not have unlimited to their library. It will be like all other VOD provider, pay to play. And not $8.95 a month for one DVD at a time, and unlimited streaming.

I'm not into sports, but I watch a lot of movies. My comment is based on the appearance that FIOS seems to be marginalizing movie channels in favor of sports channels - unless I pay even more than I already am for one of their movie packages.

If they moved all of their umpteen sports channels into a premium package and lowered my bill proportionally, I'd consider one of their movie packages.

Netflix already has a similar deal in place with STARZ...and the results are horrible.  A) The STARZ films are all cropped for streaming.  None of the non-STARZ movies are cropped...so that's a negative right there.  B)  The picture quality is not very good...usually below standard DVD.  While Netflix does offer some films in 720p HD, none of the STARZ films are.  C)  No 5.1 audio on ANY movie that is streamed!

As such, only the most completely undemanding viewer will find any use or benefit in this new EPIX agreement..

How many uncut HD movie channels with 5.1 audio are available via Fios without ordering their "Ultimate" package or one of their movie packages?

Ok now I see your point. I know that the sports package was separate a long while back. Not everyone has been happy with the bundle configurations. I being one of them. I complained and my agreement was up so I managed a deal to get the Ultimate HD bundle for the higher internet speeds. I pay more and get more. But for me it was a win win. I wanted the faster speeds. Now I have The Movie Channels and Showtimes as a bonus. I added $10 more for the other channels that are part of the movies package. Yea they could offer a bundle without sports and just movies. But it is difficult to say why marketing does what it does. Contracts with providers, strategic decisions, or what? I pay a total of $161 to Verizon. Before FiOS with Internet, phone, and DTV over a dish, it was well over $200. I have been with FiOS since launch and have not looked back over 5 years. Now I get services that I think can't be beat. But that is me.

Oh one more thing Zero down time. Internet and TV cable goes down everytime there is a power outage, anywhere between your home and the CO. With fiber your home and the CO are the only power sources. 5 years and no outages. Not to say I have not had complaints about Email, but all providers have issues from time to time.

I have extreme HD and can't believe Verizon is removing 10 channels without lowering my price. I too signed a contract and feel that they have broken the agreement. I have been very happy with the service up until now. I don't want to upgrade and pay more for what I am getting now.

Agree 100%.  I'm not going to pay more for a bunch of sports channels I don't need, just to keep MGM-HD.  Their DVR message is laughable!  "Channel lineup changes are necessary  to improve our content offerings."  So that "improvement" means loss of channels and zero new content?!?!?!  A very scummy and anti-consumer move by Verizon.
