The government is already involved!  The free market will not be able to rule without ala carte programming.  That will not occur unless the government mandates it.

To estimate how this will turn out, just consider that McCain knows even less about broadcasting, than he does about Vice Presidential candidates.

Same here.  The penultimate thing for me is an ad hominem attack, so thank goodness they're rare.

The problem is lack of choices where one could make decisions on what they want. McCain is trying to give customers at a minimum, more choice. The FCC can't regulate what they have, what makes everyone think they can regulate more? Look at Neutrality, and see what that joke is now!!!

I have 150/65 and my friend has I think 20/5 on Comcast, do you think I can send him files at 20Mbps. Just an off topic example.

It look at it from the other perspective. Give us programming tiers, and a price tag for discounts on each channel we choose to exclude. I could probably pick more than four!Smiley Mad

There is a ton of crap I don't want, but don't want to pay tons extra for what I do want. After all, in my scenario Verizon would probably charge more for fewer channels because the content provider would want to charge them more because of the crap we remove. Example if I was to go Extreme HD 150/65 instead of Ultimate HD 150/65 the price would go up, explain them marketing apples! That is even if I was to ignore any discounts I may have on my account.Smiley Mad

My point is that nearly everything Uncle Sam gets involved in they screw up.  The real solution IMHO is deregulation to let more players in to the market which would create more options.  Getting the US government to regulate MORE is not likely to be a net win.

And BTW, the snide remark intended as shot at Palin is an ad hominem IMO.
