This is a two year old thread, but it's happening again tonight. Opening night for the NHL, not broadcasting in HD.
Same issue here tonight. Oddly if I stream the channel via the FiOS TV app on my phone, the stream is in HD. So the issue seems limited to the set-top box.
My feed just switched back to the HD picture. Brutal for the first 58 minutes of hockey
