Spotlight magazine?  It's very likely that I did receive that issue of the magazine but threw out, assuming it was junk mail with information about the channel line up and other stuff that I don't care about.  And if that really had been sent out, then why were there so many other people including myself coming here not having known this and not knowing what to do?  The problem is that I don't have time to leaf and read through 28 pages just to find an important update like that and that's part of the problem when you're working and you have responsibilities.  And I'm sure that others would very much say the same thing.  There should have been a separate notice sent out about that so it would have been clear and I would have paid attention.  Just expecting customers to find this somewhere in a 28 page magazine isn't realistic and neither is expecting customers to just somehow find this on line or on the forums when we don't have the time.  I don't care about some leaflet or magazine with an another updated channel line up and I most often don't have time to pay attention to the latest movies on demand or these extra gadgets that are non-essential.  Honestly when I come home from work, what do you think I do when I sort through my mail?  I'm going to pick out what's important like bills and discard junk so I can get on with my business and as long as my services are working the same, I'm not going to blink an eye.  And if I see anything that looks like a bunch of ads, what do you think I'm going to do with it?  If it looks like more advertisements about "what's hot" or "what's the latest", the circular file is right nearby.

Maybe next time I'll pay more attention to those "Spotlights" but in all reality, they hardly ever have information that's useful for me.  It doesn't matter now.  And even putting that aside, why on earth then are there several customer service reps from Verizon who waste your time and make you go in circles when you're just calling to get an answer to resolve a problem like this?  I had one who was acting so shocked and ignorant when I explained that I needed to get a flatscreen TV to resolve this.  How could they not know?  I find that strange and somewhat disturbing.  Frankly, I don't mind figuring out problems on my own if it means a lot less wasted time on the phone.

But either way, the communication needs work and consider too that a lot of people don't really have the time to spend on these forums.  I'm lucky to have been able to find the time to do this but that will taper off soon.  It's not surprisingly how many of these corporate giants don't understand customers or really don't care and are out of touch with reality.  I've had communication with other reps or techs that was more productive but that defintiely doesn't excuse the poor communication about this upgrade and how to accommodate it.

As a follow up to my original post on this topic, my issues have been solved with a new receiver.  I took my old receiver to my local FIOS store, exchanged it for the newest QIP-7216 receiver and all was solved.

I was told there is a newer receiver that is harder to get, I don't remember the model, but the only difference is that the HDD is 500 GB instead of the 160GB in the 7216.  It's not a big deal to me since I mostly use the DVR to pause and rewind only but the guy at the store said I could brind mine back in a few months if I wanted the newest reciever.

Anyhow, again all is solved with the guide.

Thanks to all who helped.

I still think Verizon should let us know about an upgrade instead of hoping we find out about it here.

Good!  I'm glad someone else has done something about it!  I'm sick of the whining here too.  And now it's Thanksgiving.

I'm sorry if I ever came across as whining.

Yes I know your comment was not directed toward me personally.  I was just offering my apologies if I contributed to the whining in anyway.  That was all.  There really are a lot of whiners here in all seriousness, I hate to say.

sxrd60inch, good for you for resolving your problem!  I have already bookmarked the website directory of the Verizon Fios stores in case I ever need it.  And yes, I do agree that notification should have been sent out about this in the beginning, separately from this Spotlight Magazine which I never paid any attention to before.

As with all changes, sometimes it takes a while to adjust but I do echo the thought that this is not an improvement for several reasons.

my main gripes:

A. Banner duration at the bottom of the screen when flipping channels stays on way too long.  I have not found a way to adjust the duration as one could before.  Driving me nuts really.  anyone know a way to adjust it?

B. General menu (Full screen) lacks readability.  Don't get the colors, more it's the font size or something.

In general I really like  the look of the old menu, I know there are some additonal features but the ones above need to be

addressed.

We only just got the new FIOS guide update a few days ago & I feel blind-sinded, literally. I change the settings from SD to HD to get a little more info on the screen, but have to walk across the room to read it.I go back to SD & get so frustrated I go back to HD again. I go on line to My Verizon hoping to schedule my DVR there (here), and cannot see a way to narrow ALL channels to Favorite. The timeline black marker thingy interferes. The whole thing is so annoying, and I am only in my 50s. When the 80 year old returns from warmer climates, what then? Getting new remotes thanks to @VerizonSupport was very helpful for my hands. But my eyes! What twenty-something devised these products? You think this is forward-looking but you have no idea. Wait till you get older. It happens to all of us.
