Poor Quality HD Channels

I see alot of posts, regarding  poor quality HD channels. AMC ,IFC ,FOOD NETWORK, USA in regards to macroblocking, tiling, and audio lag, which I am experiencing in RI. Have called many times regarding this issue. Is Verizon working on this? Is it a problem that can be fixed? From what i understand it is a provider issue.

This problem goes back to 2009. Verizon's big selling point is  "crystal clear" channels. They dropped the ball on this one!

Sometimes it is an issue with HDMI especially if you are running through a Home Theater system.  Try going direct HDMI, or even Composite (5 RCA Cables) If hooking up composite fixes the problem, then it could be your TV and box aren't getting along well.

Composite cables will NOT transmit an HD signal. I presume you meant Component.

Aren't these the Rainbow network channels that are all sent to Verizon (and other cable channels) all overcompressed to all fit on one QAM?  if so its mostly not Verizon's problem.

Thanks. Had my entire home network checked several times by Verizon techs. Had coax, spliter and fittings changed out, also ONT output is perfect. After many service calls and phone calls, I was told it was a provider problem. My question is, why can't this issue be resolved? Is it Verizon or the provider? If is the provider, why are the signals so poor?

Most of us left our cable companies  to go to FIOS due to poor channel quality. Why is Verizon sending these channels out through their network in poor quality? How can we fix this?

jlww - I also am in RI and experience the same AMC compression artifacting as you. tns is correct in that it is a signal issue at the originating end, and not the fault of VZ. You can do a quick Google search and find similar complaints at other sites like dslreports, etc. The short version is that AMC chooses a lower bitrate for compressing signals for transmission than other providers. VZ just passes along the signal they get.

I was told by a "Verizon Higher Up", that this was a know issue and that the problem would be addressed but, it wouldn't happen overnight.  The macoblocking is so bad sometimes on AMC and IFC, you don't even want to watch those channels. I wonder what those networks  would think of that?
