REALLY DISAPPOINTED...packages for existing customers...

Was happy to see that Verizon was finally doing something nice for existing customers...at least until I made the call. Wanted to take advantage of one of the Holiday Specials offered.  It included higher speed internet and fully loaded entertainment package free for 2 years.

Sounds great, right? Senior Citizen here trying to save a couple bucks. Well, I was told that because I already had the entertainment package at a discount (expires in 5 months) that they could not offer me this holiday special.

Also, when comparing channel packages, mine (Prime) is not even listed!  Supposedly it was grandfathered in, but I was told that for only $20 more, I could get 15 more channels...none of which I would watch. What's up with that?  There is only one other channel, the Cooking Channel, that I would be interested in, and that would only cost me another $40 a month.

Come on, Verizon, if you are going to do something nice for existing customers, offer it to ALL EXISTING CUSTOMERS, not just those that you cherry-pick.

Comcast is looking better and better (did I really say that????)

All you would have to do is cancel the fully loaded package, wait 24 hours then try to get the offer again.

Only current customers who aren't in a contract or have a contract that is about to expire can get the offer. Someone like me who still have 16 months left can't get it.

Prime no longer exsists, but preferred which is what it is called now is pretty much identical to it. You might get a channel or 2 that doesn't come with preferred now, but that's all.

I wish I could get the holiday offer myself.

Afraid if I cancel it, I STILL wouldn't get the offer, then I'm out alltogether! LOL

People always complain that new custoemrs get deals that exiting ones don't.

But that is very common amongts multiple service providers.
Cable companies do it, cell phone providers, etc.

just because it's common practice doesn't make it right...

I totally agree that Verizon does not offer any special deals to existing customers.  My contract ran out about 6 months ago and I contacted them wanting to renew it.  I wanted to know why new customers could sign up for the triple play at $89.99 a month.  I am now paying $248.00 a month for the exact same plan.  They are offering NO deals to existing customers,  I would think they would like to keep their customers but I guess not.   They now have newer and improved services....but it will cost you more.  So yes I will say it, Time Warner is looking pretty good.  You just need to change your cable provider every two years.

Verizon sent me a deal to renew my contract at a discounted rate. It included the triple play with Ultimate and 75/75 Fios speeds for $159.99. That's lower than I am paying now so I may re-up.

You will more than likely experience the same issue with TWC two years from now.

As I stated before, that is the way most (can't say for sure all) providers work.

Teaser rate to get you signed up, then regular pricing after that.

They know that most people wont go through the hassle of changing providers.

May not like it, but is is business.

And it happens across multiple business.

I also received the holiday deal of $159.99 mo.  My current discounted package expires in May.  I have the same package as the new deal, minus the extra premium channels and Quantum TV enhanced service.  If I take this deal, all I'm getting is the extra premium channels, and the option to record 6 shows at the same time (new DVR which means increased rental cost per month).  I very rarely record more than 1 show at a time.

I figure if I keep what I have versus switching to this new deal, I'm not really saving all that much.

It still boggles my mind that when you sign on to your account and click 'change services' that holiday special is the first recommendation.  I will still be paying more  ($20) for my bundle than I'm paying now, so why am I penalized for already having a discount in effect.  They will still be getting more money from me!

I'm really perplexed and disgusted by their reasoning.
