Renting set-top boxes is old fashioned.

Verizon.  I hate your set-top boxes.  The user interface sucks.  It's so old fashioned and slow.  Why don't you have slick set top boxes with a user interface that's modern, like an Apple TV.  And renting HD boxes? Paying so much to rent them is ridiculous.  I could have purchased 10 of those boxes with all the money I've spent renting them.  And they're garbage.

Other than buying a TIVO, I believe all of the cable providers will only rent a box.

And I have seen other interfaces.

Don't think that FIOS is any worse than most.

Have not seen Xfinity Interface.

They just passed a law that allows consumers to purchase boxes. When is Verizon going to get in board?

Technically the FCC just said that cable companies have to allow third party  apps and boxes to connect to their service.

So it will be a while for companies to get the details and then manufacture the devices.

With Trump winning the election, he is extremely pro-business and it looks like this FCC plan is going to die on the vine. Don't expect to see anything done with STB's and that applies to all companies.
