I would like to know why Verizon is removing almost all of the widgets that are currently available? According to a message on the widget selection, as of May 6 several are to be no more. The baseball widget, the AP News widget, the Fidelity widget and a few more.
Would someone at Verizon care to explain why these are being discontinued??

These are peer to peer forums so someone from Verizon won't comment on why they are dropping widgets.
Some possible reasons are to free up space for more channels since qam space is very tight (if the widgets even play a part if freeing up space), lack of people using them, or contracts with the companies not being renewed etc...

From Verizon:
“Customers are using smartphones and tablets for applications like social media, and that has reduced demand and use of apps on the TV screen. Although customer response to the Widget Carousel was strong when introduced in 2009, its user base has gradually decreased to a small fraction of the FiOS TV subscribers we serve today. We apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause as we adjust our services to reflect user demand and today’s technology trends.”

For one, this user is not at all happy that the AP feed is being discontinued. Verizon manages to keep shopping widgets, but heaven forbid we know what's going on in the world.

My assumption is that there is money to be made on shopping widgets but not news.
