Show only subscribed channel for 'channel surfing' won't stick

The small guide that shows at the bottom of the screen when switching channels allows for choosing only subscribed channels. I turned this on several times and while I am watching the settings sticks and works fine. After turning the STB off and back on later the setting is back to 'All channels'.

Any trick on how to make the setting stick forever?

In Menu > TV Listings > Settings > Last Viewed Guide State ... select Enable

Thanks for the reply! I have that setting set, but that apparently only applies to the Guide, not the 'channel surfing' guide. With that option enabled the Guide sticks with the subsribed channels, but for channel up / down it always resets back to all channels. Is there any setting to make the subscribed only mode stick for channel up / down?

I see what you are talking about now.  I surf through the guide so I didn't catch onto what you were saying on one reading. It looks like the surfing guide defaults to "Flip by Favorites" selection.   ALL, FAV1, FAV2 are the only choices so it will go to one of those.  (I only played with it a couple of minutes, but that's how it seems to work.)  I couldn't help, but at least I learned something.  Thanks.

It seems you should be able to surf just subscribed channels.  If you want to make it a suggestion, I'll second the motion.

Suggestion made....I think it is a bug in the STB software.

For using the up and down arrows to only see the channels you want, you need to press the right arrow key on your remote. The tv genres and filters help screen will appear. hit ok. The filter screen will now appear. select the channels you want to view. For instance, you can pick to view on HD channels or only subscribed channels. After you select, these are the channels that will appear when you use the up and down channel buttons.

Also, if you set up a Favorites list, as mentioned, you can go into your menu settings to the favorites setting and set it to toggle or flip channels using your favorites settings.

Hope this helps.

Okay, just got done posting this in reply to your Idea suggestion. Walt178 already stated part of my answer, but because this is posted in Programming instead of Technical Assistance, I didn't see it till now:

Very interesting. I don't use this setting, so I didn't realize that this was even an issue. I just tried it on two different types of STB and you're correct, the Channel Mode setting (set under Genres & Filters) is not kept after the box is powered down. But, it isn't defaulting back to the 'All Channels'  setting, it is defaulting back to the 'Flip by Favorites' setting, which can be set to All Channels, Favorites 1, or Favorites 2.

The Last Viewed Guide State setting should have no effect on the Channel Mode setting. The Guide Mode and the Channel Mode setting used to be one in the same. During one of the several updates, they added the Genres & Filters options that took the place of Modes. Somewhere in there they separated out the Guide Mode from the Channel Mode, so that you could view different Guide listings without changing the surf setting. I preferred them stuck together myself.

But this may be a very new issue. I haven't heard anyone complain about it before. Did this just start happening? There seem to be several other Genres & Filters settings that are missing.

Okay, now I know that this is an update issue. If you hit the Options button under the Guide view, you are given all the proper Guide Options. But if you hit the Right Arrow button while viewing a channel, you aren't given all the Genres & Filters options. Also, if you use the Guide Options to select a Guide Mode, you are only changing the Guide setting. But if you use the Favorites button to change the Guide Mode, then you are also changing the Channel Mode setting.

C'mon Verizon, don't you test your updates before releasing them on us? Perhaps you should be paying me for your product beta testing instead of me paying you.
