Any clues if any Sochi Olympics events will be broadcasted in 3D? if yes - what channel?

Verizion Fios online support chat had no idea.

I was also looking to find this out for awhile since I watched the 2012 games in 3d and loved it. Sadly it looks like 3d was scrapped due to lack of interest.

3D is dead.  ESPN dropping 3D ended any new 3D programing industry wide.

Is NBC even offering 3D content? I have not heard anywhere that they are.  There is just not any demand for 3D content, which is why espn shut their 3D channel down.

ESPN 3d failure has nothing to do with whether they would choice to do 3d or not.  And does not, by itself, have anthing to do with how 3d is doing.

Note a lot of the coverage is POOL coverage.   It wasn't that NBC was doing 3d in the last Olympics. In the previous Olympics several sponsers were behind the 3d coverage, and the NBC decided to carry the feeds.  If you watched them, somtimes there was no commentary, and sometimes some British based commentary.

Really? Last I checked companies are in business to make money.  ESPN (Disney) and NBC (NBC Universal) are NOT non-profit organizations.

Sorry but I could not disagree with you more on all points. First the failure of espn 3D is a prime example of how 3D is doing, it isn't doing because there is minimal interest (i.e. NO money to be made from offering it). I have a 3D Plasma tv and after watching a 3D few movies to be honest I could care less about it.

Secondly, I did find out NBC is NOT offering any Olympic 3D broadcasts and since they have the exclusive North American rights to the Olympics there is NO 3D content being offered on cable tv (i.e. no Channels). Not saying you could not find 3d content on other sources, but you aren't going to see any channels carrying 3D content on FiOS, Comcast, etc.

This time no 3d is being produced by the pool.  Last time BBC and others in london took the lead and many countries carried the 3d feeds.

ESPN is not one of the partners for this Olympics so their choice to discontinue 3d service has no direct influence on decisions made for these games.

ESPN admitted it had been to early to launch a 3d sports channel and spokesman have said they think it will have a place in the future with 4k Tv's and TV's that don't require glasses.

ESPN issued the following statement:

“Due to limited viewer adoption of 3D services to the home, ESPN is discontinuing ESPN 3D. We are committing our 3D resources to other products and services that will better serve fans and affiliates. Nobody knows more about sports in 3D than ESPN, and we will be ready to provide the service to fans if or when 3D does take off.”

Remember only a limited number of cable/satellite companies ever carried ESPN 3D.  It was also often either extra cost or in premium packages for those.  These limited its available even for those who had 3d sets.
