TV on the IPAD - It's finally here!!

Verizon quietly has finally released the capability to watch live streaming TV on the ipad in it's FIOS Mobile app (it's an upgrade in the App store).   I can't believe after 27 months since they first announced it in August of 2010 it's finally here.   Pretty good implementation of it, but only streams up to 75 channels (two sports ESPN and NFL Network, a few news ones like BBC, CNN HN, and a ton of the cable only type of channels like AMC, Liftetime, Military channel, etc.).   Unfortunately there are no network channels such as ABC, NBC, FOX.   I can't understand why there would be limitations in streaming the network stations as anyone can get those free over the air.   The limitations are I believe you have to subscribe to the channels that are offered on your normal TV package (esp the HD ones) and you have to be connected to your home wifi network (so no streaming on the go).    You cannot access your DVR content yet either.  Still much to add to it, but it's nice to see FIOS finally has the capability released after so long.

It would be nice to use a PC as a STB! Why not a PC App.

The limitations are only because streaming rights to each market's network stations would have to be negotiated in groups by who owns them. One market's FOX station owner would be another's ABC owner and so on. Much too complex for a national provider right now. That's why we only see certain national channels on the app, Verizon has permission from them to stream the channels only in the customers' homes.

Requirements:
- A Verizon FiOS-provided router
- A My Verizon user ID and password
- Both FiOS TV and FiOS Internet service for live streaming channels
- Subscription to the live streaming channels you wish to watch
- At least one Set-Top Box for guide data and What’s Hot viewing
- A DVR for remote DVR functionality
- An HD Set-Top Box for remote control functionality

And who of us is still using a Verizon Provided router???   Nobody with a complex home theater setup!!!!!

Jeeeeeesh.  Thanks for nothing.

I can understand streaming limitations of networks outside of the house and out of range of your verizon wifi network, but don't understand why there will be limitations with in house streaming of any station really.   When I stream something on WatchEspn they don't show any of the commercials you would see on TV with the same broadcast, but if I watch ESPN on the FIOS streaming App I get all of the commercials so it would be no different than me watching on a small TV set somewhere in the house.

I downloaded the new FIOS Mobile app on my ipad and started the app.  I went to CNN HD station and it shut off my DVR and then it rebooted and shut off.  Nice going Verizon did you test this software before you released it?
