Verizon To Drop Gol Tv

I told you. I mentioned on here before that verizon was going to drop gol tv once BeIn sports was added and now i just received an email confirming that verizon will be dropping gol tv from the fios tv lineup on may 6, 2013. Verizon is dropping the english feed of gol tv channel 313 but for the moment will keep gol tv en espanol channel 1523 where if the viewership for gol tv espanol is low then you may see that go away too. They are doing the same thing that comcast and directv did where they dropped gol tv in english first where they are keeping tabs on if anyone is watching gol tv en espanol where if people are not then you can say adios to gol tv espanol channel 1523. BeIn sports has the rights to all of the best teams who play soccer including the U.S. mens soccer games when they are away except when they play in mexico which is often on univison or espn and since gol tv lost the rights to those soccer leagues and tournaments that people want to watch gol tv is now seen as being pointless to have. For those who do not know gol means goal in spanish so verizon is clearing trying to keep providing content to spanish speaking audiences who love their futbol/ soccer. Verizon is going to be adding more hd programming in spanish so people should be on the lookout for that along with the up and coming additions of  caracol (colombian tv) and telefe (argentinian tv) where a channel from peru is being negotiated. I have been lobbying and pushing hard for the addition of peruvian channels where peru magico is one channel that is being negotiated where it would not be added until later this year if the negotiations go well. For those who do not know verizon has a free preview of the spanish package this week where BeIn sport espanol is available at channel 1538 so it may be there for you to watch for free this week although i can not say for certain if it is part of the free preview since i am already paying for the package. If you were to chaeck out that free preview it would give you an idea of what i and other people have been saying on here for a long time that very little that is offered in that package actually matches what is listed on the guide. While i will not bother people with those details since i already listed them on the "fios guide can't be trusted" thread on here what i will say is that now everyone in the country can see what many of us have been saying are profound issues with the spanish package where half the channels in it never match what is playing and it is all because of the free preview. Now everyone will know that as bad as the guide data is for most channels in english when it comes to the spanish package it is at least half of it where it is headed to almost the entire package not matching what is actually playing. There is also a free preview of the baseball package this week.

GOL TV -- Verizon Fios' recent decision to remove GOL TV from its channel lineup in Maryland is a big mistake.  This is one of the most popular TV channels among sports enthusiasts.  Very, very, very irritated customer !!

Gol tv still exists for directv customers and according to the verizon email it is only the english feed of gol tv that is being dropped. For people who have the spanish package or the sports package or the ultimate hd package they probably got an email about this because BeIn sports is part of the ultimate hd package and spanish package while gol tv english is in the sports package. If the viewership is there then gol tv espanol will remain only in the spanish package since it is listed on the guide near sports channels that are in spanish like espn deportes and univision deportes. Before people start their DO NOT DROP GOL TV! threads check the specific details of what was in the email which was all about gol tv english being dropped. If you are a gol tv fan then i believe that you will have to have the spanish package to watch the only remaining gol tv channel that will be in spanish. I just checked both the directv and comcast guides on zap 2 it where they indicate that gol espanol is available on channel 456 on directv in sd while comcast completely dropped both the english and spanish feeds when they added BeIn sports. Comcast only offers BeIn in sd only and if you want to have gol tv espanol with directv you have to have the spanish package. It appears that what verizon is doing is that they are following the directv model to try to attract as many spanish speaking customers as they can so for now it looks like gol tv espanol will remain on fios but if no one wants to watch the channel anymore then you can say sayonara to it. Time warner by the way has both gol tv channels in hd still and they added both BeIn sports channels in hd where for the moment they are still there. We will see if in the future gol tv will be dropped by them. The last thing i will mention on here is that i misspoke when i said that a free preview of the spanish package has caused the channels in that package to not match what is listed on the guide. They have been wrong for years but now with a free preview people can confirm what i have said that many of the feeds of those channels that are in the package do not match what is listed on the guide where verizon has done nothing to improve the situation. The email indicated that everyone if they have the ultimate hd package and spanish package will have both BeIn sports channels in hd added to their guides by april 16 where every tuesday new areas will get it but it is more likely to pop up on your guide on monday night at channels 598 and 1538.

Are you kidding me? This makes no sense to drop GOL TV's English feed. I want to watch Bundesliga in English. Do you hear me Verizon??? My term is coming up with you guys. Maybe I'll jump to COMCAST or Direct TV. Do you hear me Verizon?? And by the way get GOL TV in HD.

Extremely short sighted to do this in the middle of the season.  Also I have the channel specifically for watching the Bundesliga.  GOLTV has exclusive rights in the US to cover German Soccer.  It does not make sense to keep the spanish speaking channel and remove only the english speaking channel.  Why not keep them both.  I couldn't care less about Serie A or Ligue 1 which are both sub par leagues compared to the Bundeliga. You can see as the pan the stadiums the seats are mostly empty so even their fans don't care either.  And if it weren't for Real Madrid or Barcelona who swap the titles year in and year out I would not care about La Liga either.

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH VERIZON BUT THAT IS PAR FOR THE COURSE.  If I was not locked into the contract I would drop them today.  Will be doing so as soon as possible.

Anyone know where you can find streaming video of the Bundesliga?

@mm1

I understand you right, that we keep GOL TV (1523) and Verizon is only dropping GOL TV (313). So we are keeping the spanish version and losing the english version.

If that is right, that is better than nothing.

But I don´t think alot more people will watch GOL TV (1523), because of the language barrier. maybe only for the live games, but not the magazine or shows and the season is almost over and than we have a break until august and if nobody will watch in that time, they are going to drop GOL TV (1523). Do I understand that part right, too?

You are right mira76. It could be that verizon is setting up their customers whether they speak spanish or english for the inevitable which will be that they will drop gol tv entirely where they will be using the low viewership excuse as a reason for dropping it. Right now i would say that gol tv espanol could be one that will be dropped later this year or early next year if the viewership is not there. Verizon is considereing a tv proposal where they are going to use it as a model where if people are not watching certain channels then they will be dropped at some point. If you look on here on page 2 of three on this section of this website you will see a thread where i posted what they are considering so people can understand what is on the way. The name of it is "new verizon tv proposal to drop channels that no one is watching." Verizon right now like all tv providers is doing everything that they can behind the scenes to try to add as many spanish speaking customers as they can so gol tv will remain for now while they are also trying to add some more channels in hd but i will not reveal too much of that on here until they are ready to launch. Some of those in espanol channels that are on their way include telefe, caracol, cnn latino just to name a few. Cnn latino is a different channel than cnn espanol channel 1540 where it is more entertainment oriented with some news there too. If you want to know about some of the verizon plans for channels that are on their way in spanish plus the plans of some of the competition like comcast where they are working on adding a ton of channels in spanish later this year then you can see a previous thread that i posted on here with the title "new channels coming in espanol." If you can not find it just google the name of the thread. They are working on trying to add as many 24/7 channels from spansi hspeaking countries as they can. Channels like peru magico, canal sur peru, cuba play, tv venezuela are being negotiated where of those channels peru magico is the most likely to be added but if the price drops on some of those other channels then they could be added first. Cuba play is also a very real possibility because verizon already has a business relationship with olympusat who is responsible for a lot of the channels from mexico that are on the guide from channels 1670-1693 plus that also own a lot of the channels that are in the 1500s on the guide. Comcast no longer has gol tv. Dish network does not have it either. Directv offers it in espanol in sd while time warner has both gol tv and BeIn sports channels in hd. Dish network is so desperate for spanish speaking customers after they dropped a lot of channels that are in spanish last year including canal sur that they are now offering any potential customer who signs up for their spanish package playboy in espanol for free.

Comcast has already dropped GOLTV.

Yes the Spanish feed will be kept, since most of GOL's programming is now Latin American soccer.  This was inevitable.  Verizon cannot keep all the niche sports networks, not with NBC, FOX, and CBS upping prices for their sports networks.
