Research before you react. The reason why AMC is broadcasting these messages is a little more complex than they make it seem in their banner ads. It's not a straight-forward "big bad Verizon is so mean." The flip side of the discussion is that "AMC is getting greedy."

Read more about what is behind these ads here:

AMC and Verizon FiOS are in negotiations to renew a programming deal originally signed in 2006 and set to expire at the end of the year. Back then, AMC was considered a marginal programmer as hits like Mad Men and Breaking Bad had yet to debut. Now, flush with the success of its original programming, the company is hoping to cash in with contract renewals.

Wow, so many people quick to yell at Verizon.

Do some research. AMC has been pushing this on nearly every provider over the last year and a half. The Dish Network situation was just the most publicized because of the bad blood between the companies.

AMC has become greedy and wants more and more money from all providers. They're just going down the list. They finally won their fight against Dish so now they're turning the screw against Verizon.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't care. I watch Walking Dead, Mad Men, Hell on Wheels, and Breaking Bad on AMC. I would miss those shows (but I can easily find other ways to procure them). Let's not forget that Breaking Bad should have ended this year and will only have an abbrviated "season" next summer, Mad Men is no longer the ratings darling it used to be, and The Killing is axed. That leaves them with just Walking Dead and Hell on Wheels pretty soon.

Beyond those shows, AMC has very little that makes them worth the increased price they want cable providers to pay them. Don't blame Verizon (or Dish Network, or any other provider) - blame AMC for having an inflated self worth. Beyond 2 hours a week, tops, AMC is nothing but commercial laden reruns of heavily edited movies (while the rest of their networks completely languish in irrelevance) and yet they want us all to pay more.

Whatever the reason for all this, the message is clear:  Verizon needs to do what it needs to do to continue offering the quality AMC programs that its customers have come to rely on,  Verizon needs to know that AMC is value added part of their package and that without it, this customer and many others will be leaving for a provider who carries it.

Don't mess with AMC.  They have earned the right to negotiate a better contract

WHAT is wrong with you people, you never ask the customer WHAT their needs are, you just do it. A good business would take their customers ( viewers ) into consideration before ending something, this is one of the reasons why I left cablevision in the first  place. Leave AMC alone, I love walking dead, breaking bad etc...if this channel goes, SO WILL I

This is nuts! I just signed up with Verizon and have had nothing but issues with fees and set top boxes. Now they want to drop one of my favorite channels! Maybe I should reconsider companies and go with Direct TV instead.

Hi All-

Just a reminder before tonight's new episode of The Walking Dead airs that we absolutely hear your worries and concerns over the thought of losing AMC. As a The Walking Dead fanatic, I'm right there with you! Verizon is actively negotiating with AMC to ensure you do not lose the zombies- or Don Draper or Walter White- from your TV lineup.

If you want to find out more about these negotiations, please go here.

In the mean time- happy TV watching! I'm counting down the minutes (t-minus 43!!) until The Walking Dead!

I fully agree with you on this. I was very pleased to return to states after living in Europe for 4 years to learn that FIOS was in the area that I was moving to. It was a bit a culture shock to see the cost of FIOS, but more so the shock of a 2 year contract to provide services at an established cost. But after reviewing the TV line up and the high speed line up one of my requirements was AMC so that I could see the Walking Dead and the Fallen Skies.

And since I've had FIOS for 3 months and counting, my TV service has been choppy more than 10 times a month, my Internet has been cut for up to 3 days on at least 4 occassions. With the price I'm paying, and now they want to drop TV channels due to contract problems. Dropping a channel knowing the number of subscribers that watch the channel is a sample of monoply and driving the cost up with the broadcasters. For this, a breach of contract can and will be considered. I will then need to determine whether the line of service I have with Verizon is worth maintaining.
