Oh, I'd never want to go back to Comcast  (even though they are correct in that no one really wants the channel. .Even many people who signed up for it have voiced displeasure and some dropped it fast after seeing what it was). Nor do I begrudge anyone who wants it.  Choice is a good thing.  But eliminating choice is NOT such a good thing.  What I do object to is taking channels away from other packages to try to force people to sign up for one that they may not want, just to boost EPIX.  As I said, someone here has already found they lost preferred channels by doing this.  New subs also will not be allowed to get MGM-HD under the EXTREME-HD package anymore.  That sort of throttling is what I find distasteful.  Look, I know business is business...who knows, maybe EPIX was promised (or asked for) a certain number of subscribers.  If that didn't happen, then a way had to be found to get subscribers one way or another.  So...add a package with services people might actually want (even if that means removing the preferred channels from other packages), stick EPIX in there, and voila...EPIX can now say "We have XXXXXXX subscribers!"  Don't get me wrong...I'm not trying to say that this is the exact scenario. I just don't feel people should be penalized by a loss of channels just to try and buoy a substandard one.

By the way, when I first heard about EPIX, I was very happy that Verizon would be carrying it.  I'm a big movie fan and would  have been one of the first to sign up for it.  So I was disappointed that the channel was such a letdown.   With 3 studios behind it, they could have been the Cadillac of movie channels...and if they respected the films (as MGM-HD, HDNet Movies, Showtime-HD,  TCM,  and the Fox Movie Channel do), people would have been screaming for it.   They chose otherwise...and so did I.  Just my own personal opinion--.your mileage may vary.

I think we understand each other's opinion on EPIX. As far as changing up the new packages though, I can understand why they would mix them up every so often. For example, under the "Extreme HD" setup, you would either get all the HD channels or almost none. That's fine for me, but I do know a couple people without HD in their homes. In order to get channels like NHL, NBA, Tennis, Golf, Fox College Sports,or even RFD TV, they would have to sign up for Extreme HD but get no HD.

While no setup is perfect, remember that Verizon has carriage agreements with every channel that dictates what terms and how their channels can be carried, so that will affect a lot of it.

this is the first I heard of Ultimate HD package - in all of their endless advertising, Verizon has never mentioned it. Presently, I have Extreme HDand no premium movie channels. When my first year is up in March if I say I want to keep the Extreme HD will I keep the one I have or will I get the new one with less channels. It seems 'Comcast-like' to start moving channels to different tiers and asking me to pay a little more for less channels  or pay a lot more for a higher ( Ultimate ) tier. Can I keep the Extreme HD I have with the MGM HD and Mav HD and whatever other channels they're trying to take away? Is this a nationwide thing or just in certain cities ( I live in Pittsburgh). Thanks.

You can keep what you have and you'll continue to get those channels. Just don't make any changes, or you will have given up your current setup forever.

I'm keeping what I have, until of course they come out with new channels I can't live without.

My issue is what happens when your bundle price expires? They gave everyone a sweetheart deal when Verizon Premium customers had to move to HD Extreme. 5 mbps more and more channels for the same price. Now it has moved many channels to Ultimate and I have no desire to pay extra for all those movie channels I dropped last year. Bad Move Verizon.

As you can see I have been around for years and when it was only Internet and Phone on FIOS. I joined the forums right after they started. Don't get me wrong, I like my FIOS service but get ^%&^%% at the surprises.Smiley Mad

Anyone else notice that Hallmark Movie Channel and Gospel Music Channel were taken off Extreme HD, kept on Prime HD, and added to Ultimate HD? I thought that was only the case for Retirement Living and another "senior citizen" channel, but not more mainstream channels like Hallmark Movie and Gospel Music, which play a lot of older movies. Not happy about that, but luckily my agreement was signed long before this switch.

It seems like an attempt to force you to subscribe to an awful movie package they can't sell well enough on it's own. What a rip off! Now that is my 2 Cents. Bad CL Bad CL! I finally had a use for 25/25 and thought about upgrading. But not if I loose things and pay more money. I will ride it out until Nov when my price guarantee expires.

I have worked from home since last week when the snow hit my area. 20/5 worked just fine because all of the secure connections were bogging down my employers pipe anyway. So what it took 10 minutes to upload drawings instead of 2. Just enough time to fix coffee.

What happened is that Verizon switched from a 2 package system (Essentials and Extreme) to a 3 package system.

Extreme HD does not exist anymore. The confusion is that they kept the name "Extreme". Probably because it has a nice ring to it.

It used to be...

Essentials  and Extreme HD.

Now its

FIOS TV Prime HD

FIOS TV EXTREME HD

FIOS TV ULTIMATE HD

Did you notice the subtle difference  "Extreme HD" to "FIOS TV Extreme HD"

So no, they are not taking any channels away and as long as you do not renew or change your services, you will continue to get the channels you have now. HOWEVER if you upgrade anything, or renew a contract to get the price down, THEN you will loose your current plan in favor of one of the 3 new plans.

What they should have done is drop the word "Extreme" and it would have saved a lot of confusion, but some bean counter decided that "Extreme" was to catchy a word to drop.

Yes I noticed a lot, but what Ps me off is the fact they did the same thing when the dropped most HD in Premier and Created Essentials and Extreme. Now the new tiers a year plan. Has a nice ring to it doesn't it. I guess it wasn't as bad as before, but there are channels missing, and I refuse to pay for those channels that show the same movies over and over. What if I want to keep the channels I have and not pay $20 a month more for movie channels I don't want? I guess I am scruwed. Let's see them filter that one. I have until November before they take it from me, I hope. Perhaps the price guarantee is not the channel guarantee. You know line up subject to change at any time. It is still better than DTV. I like the Fiber but thinking of going Wireless Phone only. My Cell is with AT&T and will stay that way for the near future.

PS. Renew the contract to get the price down. You must be joking unless you think you are talking to someone that is month to month. I am in my second year of the price guarantee. I will stick it out until I decide I need to pay more or they decide for me.

People on this discussion are saying if your contract is running out you can keep what you have if you don't change anything. But the way Verizon is explaining it to me is that in order to keep what I have - the "old" Extreme HD - I have to pay a la carte for the TV, internet and phone. Obviously, this makes no sense. It would be over $150 ( base price) rather than the current $109. So if you "change" to a bundle, it has to be one of the current bundle choices. If I want to stick with the Extreme HD I will have to pay more money and receive fewer channels. I could care less about the supposed faster internet. Isn't this Comcast's old trick? - continually raise prices for less product? VERY DISAPPOINTING. What's your answer to this, Forum moderator??
