price increase on DVR

Hi,

I was checking my bill today, and noticed that Verizon increased the price of my DVR from $12.99 to $16.99.

I've been a customer for 5+ years, and was told that as long as I don't change my DVR service, I will be getting that $12.99 rate.

I emailed them, but they told me that the rate I was getting was incorrect ($12.99), and they just audited my account and corrected it. They didn't even notify me about it.

Has anyone else experienced it? Is it worth fighting with them about it?

Would really appreciate a response.

Not sure how the original deal was worded.  But 16.99 is the new price.  Before recently it was 15.99.  Lower prices may have been grandfathered for a time.

Well,

If they told me it's grandfathered in-  it's grandfathered in.

I've been paying them $12.99 for the past 5+ years, so I can't believe they would just go and increase a price like that.

I think their customer service really sucks now, trying to cut costs, and just keep increasing the prices.

I too was surprised and disappointed today to discover the $4 x 2 monthly increase in my bill. I doubt Verizon's cost to continue renting me the DVRs went up ... how many years before they have fully depreciated the asset, then have zero book value and pure profit ...

I just saw my increase too - an increase on boxes that already cost way too much...especially as you CANNOT plug into the wall without one.

Most are old and/or refurbished and don't fully work.

If they offered a NEW (design) box I could see SOME justification....but no...just more nickel and diming. That's just how they do things

Has anyone had any success getting the rate reversed back? Or at least getting their dvr box updated?

I contacted them via email, and just got some stupid generic response, but I wrote them back that I was exteremely disappointed, and hoping their management will see the response, so they responded to me right away, saying they will look into it, but nothing since then. I am planning on calling them tomorrow, not sure how much success I will have with them.

I feel cheated.

Hey Alf,

Get used to that feeling. I spent a week calling and chatting trying to get a DVR upgrade and told repeatedly there is no such thing...

(despite lots of info to the contrary, I guess it just doesn't exist for ME!)

As for working with you on the rate, please please return and post if you have any success, I would be astounded to see them offer any form of compromise.

I have spent hours on the phone over several "basic" issues they got wrong and they offer no form of compromise on anything. They hold firm on a very very clear "take it or leave it" attitude

This is because their head monkey spoke at the JP Morgan investor conference the other day and promised the investors price hikes.

According to a presidential candidate:  ""Corporations are people too."   Yeah, but what kind of people?  The answer is clear.

Well, I finally had the time to call them today.

They said that they made a decision to increase DVR prices for everybody, doesn't matter if your Verizon plan was grandfathered in or not.

The guy said they sent customer notification - which I didn't see - ahead of time.

There is nothing that they can do for me.

He basically told me that I should be grateful that Verizon doesn't increase the prices like other companies do, and I should be happy that my price didn't get increased 2.5 years ago when they first increased DVR prices.

Also,  even though I didn't change my setup box in 5+ years, the content on the box changed - a "better" user guide and on demand.

So I am stuck paying $16.99 until they increase it again :).

He also tried to sell me more services to increase my bill even more to "enhance my Verizon experience".

Hey, at least I spoke to someone in the call center located in US, not outside the country when you can barely understand them.
