I think that you do a really fantastic job in keeping this board notified.  If I had known that I shouldn't have mentioned another source then I wouln't have done so.  I had just figured that most of the people here keep up with all of the available FiOS message boards like I do.

I have two QIP 6416-2 STB's and I am very very frustrated with the SD PQ issue.  This problem has been festering for at least five months since October 2008.  I'm not saying that Verizon doesn't care about its customers with the 6xxx STB's but they have not been responsible or responsive.  When I called Verizon Tech Support back in December, at least 80% of the techs didn't know that there was a SD PQ issue with the 6xxx STB's or wouldn't admit to one.  Maybe they were playing ignorant because they were told to do so.  An admission that something was wrong might cause irate customers like me to ask for credits on their bill for the lousy SD PQ, God forbid!

I can still remember what a drop dead stunning picture that I used to get on SD when I first started FiOS TV after it first became available in Montgomery Co. MD.  I don't think that FiOS was using a modern IMG back then.  The SD picture was comparable to the HD channels in sharpness and clarity.  It was just as sharp as my QAM tuner can still display the in-the-clear PEG and local channels.

Here are my questions to you.  I have two QIP 6416-2's; each hooked up to a Sony 50" XBR1 SXRD rear projection HDTV and a Sony 70" XBR2 SXRD rear projection HDTV using HDMI cables.  Will IMG 1.6.2 restore my SD PQ to the same original sharpness and detail that I once had?  If the answer is "NO" then my second question is:  Will a QIP 7216 restore my SD PQ to the same original sharpness and detail that I once had with or without 1.6.2?  If that answer is still "NO" then my third question is:  Will the introduction of a SD PQ slider adjustment control that might be introduced with IMG 1.7 restore my SD PQ to the same original sharpness and detail that I once had?

I would appreciate your candor.  Watching FiOS SD for the past five months has been very tedious and frustrating for me and many others like me.  We deserve better than what we have had to put up with.  Thanks for your reply.

sjbernst,

Yes it will do just that, The info that I was pertaining to was the release dates....Since it has been released all info not related to the backbone of our Infrastructure will be given I'm still combing through a lot of stuff but there are lots of changes on the backend that obviously I can't divulge in.

I'd like to point out that my post there wasn't a shot at anyone and I do apologize if anyone feels that way. Just be careful with information that you receive.

There is talk about having an adjusted slider so each customer can have their picture how they want it......There is no talk about which one it will be on but there is talk

I think for the first time in my life I am happy I live in Buffalo, well the 3 years I have been here. I got the 1.6.2 and it works great. I was able to watch 2 diferent, 2 hr DVR shows on my remote HD box with no issue at all. That **bleep** Hub issue is now in the past. :)!!!!!!!

Does anyone know of ANY outstanding issues now with the QIP7216 box with 1.6.2 code on it?  OR does 1.6.2 code solve ALL the issues with that settop?

Thanks!

I suffered through the same poor SD picture quality  issue for months until I stumbled upon a quick fix until IMG 1.6.2 is released.

I changed my SD setting my the 6 series DVR to 480p(from 480i) and it dramatically improved the SD picture quality on my HDTV. Now SD is watchable unlike before. Not pefect but watchable now. This can only improve with the new IMG 1.6.2

I am told this doesn’t work for everyone but it did work for me.

480i or 480p doesn't work for me.  480i or 480p gives both of my Sony TV's the HDMI handshake issue because I use HDMI cables to connect my QIP 6416 STBs to my TV's.  Switching back and forth between an HD and SD channel flashes me a totally green screen which lasts for a brief moment.  I must use the "OFF" option which allows for a seamless transition back and forth between HD and SD.  Regardless of the problem of the green screen, there is absolutely no improvement over "OFF" in SD PQ when using the 480p option.  BTW, even before IMG 1.6.0 started this **bleep** SD PQ problem the "OFF" position was always best for my TV's SD PQ.  The "OFF" position allowed both of my Sony's to upconvert the 480i/480p SD channels to close to 1080i quality.  Now, with this IMG 1.6.0 SD PQ problem, the picture literally sucks equally regardless of which setting that I try and I still will get the green handshake screen with 480i/480p.

Thanks, so basically it is tentative...Do you know if it fixes the pixelation that many are experiencing with FX HD and NatGeo? Verizon hasn't been able to come up with a solution in my case so I am hoping and praying that this update takes care of that. Thanks again for the info.

I saw someone post that it "should" take care of that, but only people who are experiencing the trouble will be able to tell us if it gets fixed or not, so let is know after you get the update.
