Getting ready to order FIOS and have the following question for those that already are running IMG 1.9.
Should I order 2 stand alone dvr or 1 multi room dvr and a stb box. As I understand it, with 1.9 the two dvr should be able to speak to one another. Does this increase the # of shows I can record at the same time? The cost seems to be the same for either package, so that is not a factor. Are there other advantages to either set ups?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks Nascar. I'll change my order to 2 hd dvr and pay the extra $8 (since there is no equipment discount). It seems worth it to get the 2 extra tuners and the added storage space of a second dvr. Out here in California, the people in the retail store have no idea about 1.9 so this forum has been extremely helpful.

The next DVR is the normal DVR fee. With 1.9, you can then multi hub the DVR's together so that any DVR or non DVR can see content from any of your DVR's. Keep in mind you need HD boxes to record and view HD content. DVR's are only HD but non DVR's can be SD or HD.
For me... With 1.9, two new larger Hard Drive DVR's and an eSATA on each DVR, I get 4 tuners and plenty of space to record and 4 tuners is a plus when 3 or 4 programs are on the same time.

Every DVR you add, adds 2 more tuners. With 1.9 DVR's can share content. Only one needs to be set as multi room. So you pay more for on the first one.johnnyelevator wrote:

With 1.9, do I need a multi room (mr) dvr?
Your explanation leads me to believe it is better to order 2 dvr since I could record 4 shows. With the mr dvr + stb I'm limited to 2 recordings at a time. The cost difference with 2 dvr is $2.00 more than mr dvr + stb.

I second NASCAR's suggestion. I had multi-room DVR for over a year, and was never happy with it. Maybe it is a little better behaved now, but I always found the response to the remote was very slow, and could rarely watch a complete program without having the program 'run away' at some point. I finally decided the cost savings wasn't worth the aggravation it was causing.
As Nascar points out, with 2 DVR's, you have 4 tuners available, and there is nothing that prevents you from recording the same program on both DVR's at the same time.
