30-second skip

I want to be able to skip 30 seconds of playback on my Motorola QIP-6416-2 DVR, but apparently the Motorola remote cannot access that command.  I got a Logitech Harmony 880 remote, but it can't seem to find that command.  Is there any way to get one or the other of these two remotes to skip forward 30 seconds?

My remote for my 6416 is a Philips brand, not Motorola, but I would bet that both do the same thing.

I use the Next button to accomplish the 30 second skip. Tha button also does the Next Day function in the Guide.

I see that the Motorola remote has a Day + button. Have you tried that one?

Depending on which remote you have, yes. First you need to set the values in the DVR, so using the remote select:

Menu ==> Settings ==> DVR ==> Skip ==> your choice of 10 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, 5 min

You can also set the Replay option to the same values. I have Skip set to 30, Replay to 10, works well for me.

You said yours is a Motorola remote; is it really a Motorola remote? (those are very old, I didn't think Verizon was giving those out any more, although I have a couple from 5 years ago when I first got FiOS TV) Here is a link to a Verizon page which displays all of the available Verizon remotes:

http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/FiOSTV/Remote+Controls/SetUp/SetUp.htm

If you have the Verizon P265, Philips RC 1445302, or Philips RC 1445301, these keys on the remote should work: the Skip and Replay (labeled Next and Prev for some unknown reason, just to the right and left of the DVR button).

If you have the Motorola DRC800, I don't think there is a Skip button available, although there is a Replay button. Strange....

If you have the Scientific Atlanta AT8550 it looks like it does not have a Skip button either, although I have never seen one of these remotes.

If you really have a Verizon-provided remote that does not have the Skip button, I would call Verizon support and tell them my remote was broken and to send me a new one, from comments I have seen they send out remotes to replace broken ones with no questions.

As to the Logitech remote, I am sure there is a way to program it, but I have never used one of those. Sorry.....

Hope this is what you are looking for.

Thank you for your rapid response!  Yes, I really do have the Motorola DRC800 remote, and you're right, it doesn't have a skip button.  I've already set the skip interval in the DVR's menu as you advised.  Looks like I'm going to wind up calling Verizon tech support.  I've heard, though, that the Philips remotes don't have the buttons to move up or down a day in the guide, which is a bit of a downer.   Guess I have to sacrifice days for seconds.  Thanks, though!

Read my prior post. I have the Philips remote and it does indeed have the Day forward and Day back functions. They are labeled Next and Prev. Did you try the + button?

You are welcome.

Yes they do. They are not labeled as such, but the Next and Prev buttons, the ones that do the skip and replay functions when watching a recording, will go forward and backward a day in the Guide.

The + button on the DRC800 remote does not have any effect on positioning (ie, Skip) when viewing a recording. I have tried nearly every button on my DRC800 to see if there is a button that will do the skip, I cannot find one. That is one of the (many) reasons why I use this remote on one of my low-use, non-DVR STBs.
