$39.99 Fee To Upgrade DVR Box?

Verizon has got to be kidding.  We have all patiently waited for them to provide a decent DVR box with capacity similar to what other companies are providing.  They finally release a new box and they want to charge us a $39.99 fee!  They are already charging a monthly fee for use of the outdated (which I have paid for several times over during the last four years) the new boxes should be provided for free.

I hope others will join me in letting Verizon know how disappointed they are in this serious lapse of judgment and customers service!

Don't charge loyal customers to upgrade to necessary new hardware    Put your vote in here,   it looks like Verizon has given a response too.

Check your local Verizon store for availability. Add a second DVR to your account. Keep your other DVR for as long as you like.

They have got to be kidding. I left Optimum for them and have paid for the DVR box every month $19.99 and now they want $39.99 to loyal customers who made them what they are. No way to treat loyalty. I think they better rethink this. No way I am paying and I will get all my fios friends to write them Bad Verizon.

That will not work, I just tried and the 7216 DOES NOT work like they said. I got the Western Digital recommeded hard drive and it doesn't work without the firmware upgrade to 1.9 and it sounds like they are holding out until they can get as many suckers to pony up another 40 dollars for the new 7232 model.

Just curious, who are you replying to? And who is the "they said"? Verizon has never said that you could use an external hard drive on any of their DVRs without the 1.9 level of the IMG. When you do get 1.9 then your external hard drive should work with either a 7232 or a 7216.

If you don't want to spend the $40 for a 3272 then don't, it is your choice. Or you can take your existing DVR to a Verizon store and see if they will/can exchange it for a 3272 for no fee, apparently lots of people have been able to do that. Again, it is your choice.

I chose to take the online order option, I had my 6416 for close to 6 years, I decided it was time for a change. The 3272 was delivered promptly via UPS, I didn't have to go anywhere, and it works great. My choice....and now all I have to do is wait for 1.9 Smiley Very Happy

I completely agree.  I've been a customer of this company for more than 40 years (long before they WERE Verizon).  I get 3 to 5 flyers a week promoting a free DVR box for life for new customers.  When I called to speak with someone to try to work out a deal, all they kept telling me was that I would have to pay the monthly fee since I am an existing customer.  You would think they'd try to keep their loyal customers satisifed.  I do love FIOS, but I'm ready to swith tosatellite to get a better deal.

Sorry, but what the heck are you talking about!?!?!?!?!!? IMG 1.9 has nothing to do with making people upgrade to the 7232 and not once did Verizon ever say the external drive would work without 1.9. They aren't holding out until everyone upgrades, that's simply wrong.

Also, for those saying go to your local store, apparently Verizon is running low on 7232's and from what I've been reading the stores are not upgrading to the 7232's anymore. They will only do it online (I could be wrong, this is just what I've read on other websites/forums lately).

Personally, do I like the $39.99 to upgrade, no I think it stinks. But I sucked it up paid for it and honestly I could not be happier. I just got my 1TB external drive last week and it works great.  (we got the IMG 1.9 upgrade a few months back). Even without it I wouldn't switch. Been with Verizon since June 2008 and no matter how **bleep** I may get at them about things (BBCA-HD perfect example) I wouldn't switch. Why, because I subscribed to Comcr** for 10 years and they were the absolute worst in every way shape and form, and had Satellite (DirectTV) in our vacation house, Caveat Emptor, you'll really enjoy it when it rains (love those locating satellite blue screens).

I beg to differ on the 1.9 issue.

I also purchased the Western Digital DVR Expander hard drive which is recommeded on Verizon's website.

There was no mention of it not working without the firmware upgrade to 1.9 or I would not have used the

Verizon link to WD's website and purchased the drive.

This is an embarrassment for Verizon and its Tech Support people.

For some reason, Massachusetts and a large part of New York were not given the 1.9

Firmware upgrade that was supposed to be rolled out in October.

Now they are saying the end of November and here we are.

The tech I spoke with said he is hoping it is done before the holidays.

Since I have already spent money on an expander for a dvr with limited memory,

why should I also pay $40. for the upgrade to required equipment?

I was also told that my Motorola dvr is a very old one, which is funny,

since I have only had the service for a year and a half or so and

should have been given a brand new dvr.

That is based upon the fact that Verizon camped out in the lobby of

my building trying to wooo us into switching from Time Warner Cable.

There were many promises made at that time including

"Buffering is a thing of the past" with regard to Internet speed.

They never said you have to pay to upgrade your speed as well.

Just saying....Woman Mad

I agree that Verizon should not charge us for the new box.  I have a 7216 and it won't work with the new system.  I have been getting the run around from Verizon.  They just keep sending me 7216's that don't work.  They even wasted my time while I waited paitently over the phone and they promised me a 7232 at no charge and what came to my door?  A 7216.  I am very disappointed in Verizon.
