I am adding a tv in my computer room. The only connection in the room is the cable running to my FiOS router.
Can I use a splitter at that connection? If so what kind of splitter?

Yes you can use a splitter. It needs to be one rated for 1 GHz (1000 MHz) at the high end.
Does the set you want to connect have a QAM tuner? If it does you will only get your local stations and if it doesn't then you will need a box from Verizon to get anything.
