So I called tech support and here is what we came up with. If you set a series to record...like I did for American Idol and also choose to record at another time in addition to the series, you run the risk of canceling out one of the episodes you actually wanted. So for American Idol, I noticed that while it was set to record on Tues night, it was not going to record on Wed night, so i manually set it to record the Wed night show. The guide (erroneously) thought that the Tues and Wed show was the same, and "skipped the show due to deletion" which is just a horribly written error message and really makes me appreciate my old Tivo.
Anyway, this is what we *think* happened, but the tech was also confused about the error message

The question is why did the guide think the two shows were the same? My tivo upstairs recorded both episodes fine.
The root cause would probably be the awful information in the VERIZON TV guide. How can tivo have much more specific info for each episode but the verizon guide always lists a series decription instead of an episode description?

TiVo uses Tribune Media, which has 4,000 customers including AOL, DirecTV, Microsoft (Windows Media Center), TiVo, Time Warner, and The Washington Post. Reliable guide data is pretty darn important to DirecTV and TiVo.
Verizon uses FYI Television. Who?!?
