Any new TV Tuner cards and Cablecards exist for TV viewing on PC?

Hello, I want to be able to access and view/record channels on the FIOS lineup I have (Extreme HD) with a compatible TV Tuner card and Cablecard access device. As I understand it some form of signal change was implemented recently which makes encrypted channels unavailable to older tuner cards. What is the current status of this issue and will I ever be able to decrypt the signals that appear on my tuner card as encrypted? I wish to be able to access and record programming on the NFL Network, SYFY and ESPN channels among others. HD accessibility would also be nice. Anyone from FIOS tech support listening?

Thanks for your time!

I really hope it will fall, but it's super worth it because it can handle four tv's at the same time.

I want it REALLY bad.   I have seen reviews from people that have it and they are all good.

Keep in mind - to get the unencrypted channels you will want to get Verizon's M Card for 3.99 a month.   it will give you all your hbo's etc and you won't have to have the bulky cable box

You will need a card that supports Simulcrypt.

The signal change your referring to is called Simulcrypt. Most modern cable card systems should be able to handle this as the manufacturers are putting out updates to make them compatible. But devices like the ATI cable card systems that are no longer supported by the manufacturer are unable to connect to the modern signal. There is a good article at endgadget that explains this.

Yeah looks like I need to upgrade. I just looked at the Ceton offering and it would do nicely. Of course it has a comparable price tag too. Looks like I will be waiting a few more months before I do upgrade. Maybe the price will fall by then?

if you have a blockbuster - check and see if they have the HD tivo's   last time I was there, they were 99 bux.   super cheap and it satisfies all the needs, I think that any new tv cable cards that come out to support simulcrypt will be 250 and up.

Thanks for the heads up but I really want one of those Ceton cards too. Just have to convince the CFO that its justifiable 🙂
