Anyway to "teach" FIOS remote?

Does anyone know if there is a way to "teach" the Fios remote? The problem I am having is that I just got a new Vizio TV and for some reason the MUTE button doesn't work. All others work fine.  Thanks for any info.

There is no way to "teach" the remote. However, did you try all of the codes for Vizio? Or did you use the search and stop on the first code that worked? I believe that there are occasions where multiple codes will work for some TVs, but not necessarily operate all functions on a particular TV model. So you might want to again go through the exercise of programming the remote for the TV and check out all codes that appear to function for your TV, you hopefully will find a code that will control all functions.

I am having the same problem as the original poster.  I bought a new Westinghouse TV last night and I used the manual search for a code to connect the TV to my FiOS remote (because the codes provided for Westinghouse did not work...I even tried the ones for White Westinghouse).

While I can now control the volume, as well as use the Power button on the remote to turn on/off both the TV and the FiOS box, the Mute button isn't working.

I see that it was recommended to not use the first code that works, but my issue is that when I'm hitting the Fast Forward button to search through the codes, the 2nd one works...but it turns the TV off, so how would I continue searching through additional codes to find the one that will control ALL of the necessary functions?

May I assume that you're talking about programming your remote?  It's a pain in the neck.  I held onto my little booklet with the list of all codes for each type of TV.   Are you looking under the right section, "Codes for Television"?  When I was programming the remote for my new Samsung, I didn't realize until much later on that I was looking under "Codes for Audio Receivers".  I understand that you have to go through each code one by one until you land upon the one that works.

It's weird that you are only able to program your remote so it can handle some of the functions but not all of them.  Maybe the batteries on your remote are running low.  Try replacing the batteries see if that works.

If nothing else, call Verizon for technical support with your TV and a tech there should be able to walk you through with resolving the problem.  That's what I did for myself last time.
