Audio Not Balanced During HD Sports Broadcasts

While watching football and hoops broadcasts in HD, I lately have noticed a problem with the sound balance during these broadcasts.  In particular, when watching HD broadcasts on Fox and ESPN, I often find that the play-by-play feed is drowned out by the crowd noise and other ambient sounds.  I have to turn up the volume to an unnaturally high level to hear the play-by-play, and the crowd noise is nearly deafening!  I do not have a home theatre or similar sound system, just the standard red and white audio connectors to the speakers in my Toshiba projection TV.

Is there anyway to correct the sound balance, or is this just a flaw in the signal levels provided by the networks?

Thanks for any advice,

Rich

Try adjusting the "dynamic range" setting in your audio settings on the STB. Otherwise it's a network issue.

You should also check your TV's audio settings.  Some have a simulated surround modes that don't work particularly well with analog audio inputs.   Switch your TV to PCM or stereo output mode.

Hi rlashier, you can also check the audio format setting in the audio settings of the stb. If you don't have a surround sound system, it should be set to stereo. Hope this helps.
