Back door to record shows off the DVR?

Has anyone tried to split the video output of the HMDVR and send one end off to a video capture card on a PC? I happen to have my old Dell Dimension PC sitting behind my TV and it has the ability to accept video inputs to capture video. I'm thinking that if I split the video signal out of the HMDVR, I should be able to run my capture software and record anything that's on TV at the time (as long as my DVR is turned on and playing video). Is there any reason why this wouldn't work? Would I see a degraded HD picture if I split the component video signals?

Does anyone know if there are multiple video outputs enabled at the same time? For example, can I run an HDMI cord to my TV and Component video cord to my computer and have video being outputted on both? That would be ideal because then I wouldn't have to worry about the split.

All outputs are active at the same time.  If you want to capture in HD, you will need a component video capture card that supports HD.

The alternative would be to buy the TivoHD, which lets you download SD and HD recordings from the DVR directly to any computer on your home network.  Screenshots of that functionality below:

Download SD and HD recordings directly from the Tivo to your PC with any web browser.  Just go to https:\\yourtivoip.

With TiVo Desktop, you can automatically transfer new episodes of your favorite series to your computer as they are recorded.

After downloading a recording, use VideoRedo TVSuite to automatically remove commercials and burn to to DVD.

In VideoRedo, select "Start Ad-Detective Scan" to mark all commercials, "Cut selection" to remove them.  Click "Save As.." to save the file as a MPG without commercials, or "Create DVD" to create a DVD with the commercial free program.

After selecting "Create DVD" in VideoRedo, insert a DVD-R or DVD+R and click Ok.
