Cablecard install requires a $79 truck roll fee?

I'm a current fios customer, and just purchased a Tivo Premiere.  So now I want to add the lease of an M-Card to my account.  When I called in the CSR said there would be $79 installation fee.  I've seen posts (here and at Tivo) where it is said the CSR's are incorrect and there should not (or will not) be a charge.  Can anyone verify this?

Has anyone been charged the $79 to install a cablecard ... or has just everyone been told they would be?

There are numerous threads here on the subject, and the short answer is nobody in recent history has been charged for the truck roll.

Cable cards are not well understood by the sales folks. They do require a Verizon Tech to install, which in theory is a truck roll fee.

However I think the FCC regulations that require the Cable Card be made available effectively prohibit the installation charges. I am sure Verizon would love to charge the truck roll fee, but are prohibited from doing so by current regulations.

Well, the good news is that there are some reps out there that do know what they are doing.  I called back today ... to just ignore the truck roll fee discussion, and get the cablecard ordered ... and the rep said a technician would have to come out, but did not mention a charge.

Good to know that some people got the right information.
