DVR Did not record any scheduled programs, dvr not full

This past Sunday night, I had scheduled shows to record on the DVR.  The DVR was about 30% full.  None of the shows recorded.  I have since scheduled shows to record and they all record, no problem.  I was forced to pay Amazon to see the show (Mad Men) that I had missed.  The others, I believe will be rerun.  Wanted to know if this is a problem with my equipment or you had a glitch in your system that won't occur again.  Either way, I pay for a service and should not have to pay someone else for that service.  Thanks.  Beth {edited for privacy}

What evidence do you have that you actually had the programs scheduled correctly?

I'm not the most expert about such things, but I've scheduled and recorded hundreds of programs on the DVR since getting FiOS service.  During that time there's not been a single instance of a correctly scheduled program failing to record.

Maybe I'm just lucky.

My experience over almost 8 years, with two different DVRs, has been somewhat in the middle:

1) When I have scheduled a series to record, or just selected a single recording of a program, as best I can remember I have never, ever had it fail to record a single recording or at least the first program in a series.

2) Fairly regularly however, when I have set a series recording, at some point it will stop recording the series. It may do one, or two, or 10, or whatever correctly, and then just stops recording that series. I can never find a reason why it stopped, all will look right but it just won't record. If I re-create the series entry, it starts recording it again for at least some period of time, then the same thing happens again. The only thing I can think of is that the Guide provider (currently FYI, hopefully soon to be someone, anyone else!) makes some change in the Guide data for that series that prevents the DVR from recognizing that it is still the same series. But who knows.....

Anyway, for me it mostly works fine, I just need to check periodically that all of my series schedules are still working.

had the same problem but only with AMC series channels. Mad Men didn't record Sunday I found out all of my DVR series that are on AMC that are prescheduled series are set to channel 0 for some reason. I had to catch Mad Men on a rerun Monday night. So angry about that.  Im reprogramming everything else. It seems Comic Book Men Walking Dead are both set to 0 too. Have no idea what's going on. Hope it doesn't happen again.

Hi Beth,

While no one can know exactly what happened to your scheduled recordings without catching it in the act, you might want to check out this thread discussing a recording glitch that occurred recently with the AMC HD channel. Or this thread discussing a very rare recording issue along with other more common causes, including how to troubleshoot the issue. Also, while I do not know which episode you were trying to record, several episodes of the show Mad Men are kept in the AMC folder On Demand.

On Demand > TV Shows > By Network > A-C > AMC > Mad Men > Mad Men 609 (The Better Half)

Hope this helps.

I hope that works for you. Did you get a chance to read either of the threads I posted above? You might not be the only one that experienced this issue.

They sent me a new DVR.  When I uploaded the scheduled series into the new DVR, I noticed that all the AMC shows were set to Channel 0, instead of Channel 731(HD - AMC).  The other show that did not record was an HBO series...turns out that show did not air that night.  Do not know what caused the DVR to do the 0 channel switch.  I had an older DVR model and was due to replace in August.  So far no problems...fingers crossed.  Thanks.
