The DVR is not working properly.

I have many programs set as NO DUPLICATES and record first run only, but I am getting duplicates.  The same shows are being recorded twice and even on the same day. Please get this corrected.  Others have this same problem.

I have the right settings, but it seems to ignore the settings I saved.  This seems to happen with ESPN Films and ESPN 30 for 30 a lot.  I also have some shows set to only record 4 episodes, but I see more than that recorded.   It is like the settings that are saved are not making any difference.  This needs to be corrected.  This may be due to the descriptions of the same episodes being slightly different.  I saw 2 of the same show have different descriptions so maybe the DVR recognizes it as a different episode?  There should be a better way here. I dont want duplicates and when I specify first run only, it should only record the first run.

Regarding duplicates:   Set it to record on "selected channel only."   That should eliminate the duplicates.

Freguently programs are listed as new on a channel because it is new on that channel.  This is a function of the information from the content provider to the channel guide service. Verizon doesn't have any control over this.

Regarding more than the selected number of episodes showing:  I believe the "Keep" and "Save" functions work together.  If your "Save" setting is "Until space is needed" it will begin deleting the programs when the DVR is full. Saving the number you specified in "Keep."

It is already set to that.  It is set to selected channel only.  It records the same show again even though I have it set to 'No duplicates' and also record  'first run only'.  It doesnt remember what I have watched and also records same show even when the show is sitting there stored, already recorded.  This happens often with ESPN 30 for 30 and ESPN Films.  I am not sure why.  I also specify only a certain amount of recordings and it records more than that. It is like it is ignoring the settings. Others seem to have this same issue.    I understand the save until I delete or until space is needed commands.  It should still only save the amount that you specify and it goes over that amount.  Something isnt working properly here and others have this issue. I have read about it.  Verizon needs to correct this malfunction of the DVRs. It used to work in the past. When i specified no duplicates, there were no duplicates.  Can anyone help us out?  The customer support says it is rare, but I dont think it is rare from what I have read.

Come on!  There are posts about this back to 2004 and beyond.  I have not set to a particular station only because often there are multiple shows I want to record that first air at the same time (e.g. Sunday 9pm)  So, particularly for PBS, I want to be able to grab it  once wherever it's playing. (ch 2 -boston, 11-NH, or 18-RI)  I can't just go with the PBS repeat schedule because (maddeningly) they may replay it at, say, 2am on Tuesday one week, but not the next week. Also, I've often missed the original air date of the series, so it's new to me in 2013, but it literally a repeat because the series was originally screened in 2011 or such.  Anyway, I've set New and Repeats, All Channels, All Times, and Duplicates NO.  I don't delete until the series is finished for the sole purpose of have the DVR see that another recording of the same episode is a duplicate.  YET, I still get duplicates.  These duplicates have the same title. same description.

When the heck are you going to fix this!?  Please!  If I go away for a week, it fills my DVR.

The same program on a different channel is not considered a duplicate because of the different channel.

This is still not working properly.  Tonight I had 2 'Taking Stock' shows shown scheduled for recording and one was at 5pm and one at 9pm and both exactly the same and on same channel.   I have the dvr set to 'NO DUPLICATES' and 'RECORD FIRST RUN ONLY', but it is still recording the one at 5p and then the one at 9pm for some reason.

I am not sure what is causing the dvr to ignore what i have specified.

It is like it is ignoring the settings.  Please fix this.  It is ignoring the settings.

I called in about this and they said it sounds rare, but others have same issue.  They re-set my dvr and all it did was wipe out all my favorites so i had to set that all up again and it still doesnt work properly. PLEASE PERFORM SOME TESTS OR SOME QUALITY CONTROL. PLEASE USE YOUR PRODUCT AND YOU WILL SEE WHAT IS GOING ON HERE. The person that I called didnt seem to be that familiar with the DVR and the settings. I dont think he used it at all.

I used to have this issue. Most, but not all, of my suggestions are already mentioned above. Here are the settings that I use that have nearly cured this problem.

In the Series Manager, alphabetize your recordings and make sure that each program is only listed once. Multiple listings can cause multiple results. You may have one set correctly and the other one fouls you up. Or just having duplicate series scheduling can cause duplicate recordings. You can re-prioritize them later. Then scan through each listing making sure that the settings are as follows:

Episodes: First-Run Only

Keep: (Whatever number you desire.)

Save: Until I Delete

Channel: Selected Channel

Air Time: Any Time

Duplicates: No

Changing the Episodes setting increases the likelihood that you will record shows you’ve already seen. Only change this if you are looking to catch an old episode, or are recording a series in syndication. Changing the Channel setting increases the likelihood that the DVR will believe that the same episode on a different channel is a different episode. If you want to record the same series on more than one channel, set up a new Record Series for each selected channel. This will decrease the likelihood that the DVR will auto-select which channel to record on or record the same episode on multiple channels. I’d be careful changing the Air Time setting as even the slightest change to the schedule could prevent your program from recording. The only time to change the Duplicates setting is if you know that a particular program commonly has the same descriptions for different episodes, and you don’t want to lose NEW content because the Guide description is inaccurate. Also, no, the DVR does not remember what you have watched and deleted. If it’s not in the Recordings list, the DVR doesn’t know you’ve already seen it.

The problems that these settings do not cure are almost always caused by inaccurate Guide data, not DVR errors, and include:

The same episode with different descriptions, causing duplicate recordings.

Different episodes with the same description, causing a failure to record or to keep both recordings.

New episodes not marked as NEW fail to record.

Old episodes marked as NEW create duplicates.

The same episode with the same description on different channels being regarded as a different episode.

Until the industry adopts a standard that marks each show with a unique ID that is broadcast with the content, and the DVRs are programmed to adhere to this data, I believe that these issues will continue. But I hope that these suggestions will help.

THanks, but I do have those settings.  As I said, I have it set to FIRST RUN ONLY and NO DUPLICATES and selected channel only, etc. Also, The 'Trading Stock' show is only there once in the list of shows to be recorded and the shows had identical information and on same channel and it still wants to record the 5pm show and then the 9pm show. It is like it is ignoring my settings.  There is definitely an issue here and it needs to be addressed.  This issue is unresolved until I see it working.  Thanks for the response though. I appreciate the attempt to help.  At least you didnt tell me that it is super rare and you never heard of this like the Verizon customer support person did.  I will continue working with this.  I have to manually go thru the scheduled recordings at the beginning of each week and fix any duplicates myself. That's the only way to get this right.   I also noticed that Celebrity Apprentice didnt tape and then noticed they changed the name to All-Star Celebrity Apprentice for some reason.  So I had to set that one up.  I think I will use the OnDemand a lot more because the DVR is too unreliable as is.

DVR continues to ignore 'First Run Only' and continues recording shows that have already aired.

Its not that the DVR ignores the setting.  ITs the guide data that Verizon gets from FYI doesn't have them labeled correctly so that the shows can be detected as duplicates.  Of course it was verizon choice to use FYI as its supplier of this info.
