my dvr indicates 40% full with only five hours stored on a 20 hours capacity DVR.

my DVR records program on up to the last approx. 85-90% of the show, always cutting off the recording short.

My DVR tells me when I have only 20-30% of capacity used that the next hour show can be recorded because I don't have enough space to record it.

Your main problem is that youhave a 6000 series model which is going to be slow with the new software. Call your nearest fios store and you should be able to exchange them for a 7000 series one.
