DVR splits programs

This has been happening quite often.  The DVR will split one program into 2 separate recordings.  For an hour program, the first recording might be 52 minutes long and the second one will be 8 minutes long.  Or it will be 58 minutes and 2 minutes.  Really annoying.

Testing of the Emergency Alert System will do this. Known befor as the emergency broadcast system.

In addition to the EAS, Verizon also does box resets from time to time.  These typically occur somewhere between midnight and 5 AM.  I often find early morning recordings on my DVR split.

I've seen this happen in real time twice. Once was for a power failure for about 10 seconds. DVR stops recording, then starts again after it boots up. Another time was for a program signal interruption (like from the network). Same thing: DVR stops, then starts. At least it's smart enough to know it hasn't completed the recording.
