Ethernet connection to Blue Ray player

My Fios Internet router is located in an upstairs office and the wireless signal does not seem strong enough to allow my internet ready Blue Ray player to stream You Tube or Netflix without long pauses. Running an Ethernet cable the whole way is a major challenge. I've seen where I can get a MOCA bridge unit to create a coax network, but thy cost $100. I'm told the STB has this function already built in. Why can't the Ethernet jack on the back of the STB be used to make the connection to the Blue Ray player? I've tried, but it doesn't seem to work. What's the point of having the Ethernet jack if not to do this?

The ethernet jack is not active for FioS. What I did is that I went on ebay and bought a second Fios Rourter for $20 and it works great !!!
