Is it possible to have both FIOS TV and Internet in the same room the cable comes into?  Do I need special equipment to accomplish this?

Thanks!

Not certain what you are asking.

Are you asking how to connect both a computer and the TV to a coax connection to the room, or do you have both coax and cat 5 cables into the room?

If you have both cables already available then all you need is the STB for the TV and an ethernet cable to your computer.

If you only have coax to the room, you need a device to convert the ethernet signal on the coax to cat 5 cable to connect to your PC. I know of at least two options:

1) Get a Motorola Nim100 somewhere. Verizon originally supplied those when they first started FiOS, there are lots around. You should be able to find one on eBay for maybe $65 or so. A Verizon installer may also happen to have one although it is pretty unlikely I think. If you go this route you also need a bi-directional splitter between the coax and the NIM because the NIM is not a bi-directional device and the STBs need communication both ways. The splitter also needs to pass 1 GHz signals, not all splitters do. I am using a NIM for just this purpose, works great.

2) Get a second Actiontec router and use it to perform the same function the NIM would. I have not used this setup, but others have, it works well aparently, although I think you would need to do some configuration on it. These are also supposedly available on eBay.

Hope this helps.

Hi. Yes you can have both FiOS TV and Internet in the same room. Verizon provides all of the eqpt except the TV's and the computers. They will set it up at the time of install.

Justin and opoleez,

Thanks for the quick response.  Currently I have one coaxial line in the room connected to the wireless router.  This in turn is connected to a PC.  I would like to have a TV in the same room and I was wondering what I need in order to allow this to happen.

Thanks

if you want to do it yourself... go purchase a bi-directional COAX splitter and a small run of coax cable at a local electronics/home improvment store... and order a self install box from verizon....

if you want verizon to do it, place an order to have a tech come install it
