FIOS drive space

When will my FIOS HD dvr be able to hold more content than my cell phone?

I seems weird that a DVR would even ship with anything less than a 500gb HDD.

Please do not respond with ANYTHING that is NOT an answer.  12 months ago when I called tech support tey told me the same lame answers, "verizon is on it, we are working hard to make the customers happy"  What a crock!   It isn't hard to add a bigger HD and the cost is minimal!   I would gladly pay for a 500gig HDD and install it myself!   I had a Direct TV DVR before I switchd to this lame fios DVR that would record 180+ HOURS  of HD content,  I NEVER hit the limit with it..... it was NEVER full.   NEVER.   Hello Verizon is anyone home?????    Seems that Verizon is asleep at the switch....     I want a DVR that can RECORD programs,  I dont care about widgets that record some half baked socialist jack a$$.  Just give me a DVR that can RECORD in HD.

Only mention Software updates that are actually released, no one cares that Verizion is promising to fix the storage problem early in the year 3326 with version 1.9 rev 86B -charley ninner five  OH.

Maybe Verszon cold sell etch-a-schetches and a DVR solution of the future.

OK - no response.

If you search the forum you will find numerous "reports" of  eSATA expansion plans and new hardware rollouts.  None of these are officially from Verizon with a date, so no one can give you an answer.

Your only current option for more space is to purchase a TiVO or MOXI and rent a cable card from Verizon.

Not the "answer" that you want, but that is all there is (excluding firmware updates of unknown date and hardware releases also of unknown date).

This is a peer-to-peer forum. You will not find the answer you are looking for here.  Verizon has no official presence here.

Yes there is talk of a sofware upgrade. So you already have all the answer you are ever going to get.

And the cost of upgrading the DVR is HUGE!!! It is realitively small on a per box basis but there are MILLIONS of dvr's that would require an upgrade. And not only would that be exceedenly expensive since most people are unable to add their own drive. So you have the cost of the drive. The cost of updating the software to accomodate the larger drive. The cost of shipping the box back and forth to get it upgraded. Then finally the cost of paying someone to do the upgrade. So the cost is prohibitive.

Yes Verizon is going to get bigger boxes. They have been saying that they are comming for quite a while. And since there are millions of boxes out their, they have to build up the supply. Can you imagine what would happen if they announced it and then everyone demands one and they dont have enough for everyone? It would be a nightmare. So they have to wait for the manufacturer to build enough of a supply to meet demands. It takes time.

But the software upgrade is faster, this way it will allow those that know how, to add external hard drives. That should be out in the near future, but it has to be tested first. And I'm personally glad to see Verizon taking their time on it this time. In the past they rushed out their software upgrated with disasterous results. Seems like they are taking their time to make sure it is right this time.

If your unwilling to wait, you can always buy 3rd party (TIVO, MOXIE) or go back to Direct TV. But remember, you switched away from DTV for a reason. I aways find it funny for people to start comparing one company to another. "My old company never did this". So why did you change? Every company is different. Some offer better VOD, some have better DVR's, some have better Picture, some have better customer service. If you switch before doing research for what you will get, then shame on you. Its no ones fault but your own. No one made a secrete of the size of the DVR recording capacity. And you know that get when you a.s.s.u.m.e
