FIOS grounding plug outlet

Do I really need the grounding plug thing that is installed? (I don't know what it is, techs just said they needed to plug it into a grounded outlet). I pulled it out and all FIOS triple play items still work.

Want to remove because my baby keeps pulling it out of the wall, and I can't find something to cover it....

Thanks!!

Are you talking about an STB or the ONT? There is only one wire coming off the STB...if you unplug it from the wall the STB will get no power. 🙂 The power outlet on the STB itself is just an outlet you can plug other components into, it doesn't have anything to do with grounding.

The STB's all use a polarized plug (one blade is different than other, so the plug only goes into the outlet one way). There is no ground pin on the plug (although technically the Neutral is effectively ground).

I don't think there is such a thing as a polarized wall outlet that doesn't have a ground connection (the circular hole on the outlet is the ground). The STB needs to be plugged into an outlet that accepts a polarized plug to operate.

I cannot vouch for all ONT's, but my Motorola ONT just uses a polarized plug.
