FiOS DVR loses connection to the network after Fios Gateway Router upgrade - VERY FRUSTRATED!!!

My Problem

This has been happening for a few weeks now...  our DVR loses connection to network, seems to shut off, tv goes to a light gray screen, performs some sort of download and then and shows the verizon logo on tv.  This process typically takes 5 mintues to complete and on occasion has happened 2-3 times in a row.  This happens very sporadically and typically in the evenings.  We have been on this old hardware for quite some time and have had no issues with it, until lately.
