FiOS TV menu is suddenly showing in 4:3 ratio on HDTV

Hi, I have the Motorola HD DVR set top box hooked up to an HDTV.  The FiOS menu used to fill the entire width of the screen until one day is started displaying in the standard TV 4:3 size.  It has borders on the left and right side, like how a standard non-HD TV broadcast looks.  The menu is very squashed looking now.  How can I get it to display as 16:9 and fill the entire screen again?

Thanks very much

This is the native format of the guide. It was stretched to 16:9 in the 1.7 update in December, but only on the 7xxx series boxes. That was reverted with the recent 1.7.1 update. A future update will add a true HD guide, which will natively be in 16:9.

I don't see why they don't fix it NOW!!!!

Seems that sometimes "fixes" are worse than what they supposidly replace.

How long are we going to have to put up with this?

I agree.  The 4:3 guide is awful.

4:3 is what the guide was (and is again) and was designed to be. When it is stretched to 16:9 it gets distorted. There were numerous complaints about this in December when they stretched the 4:3 guide to 16:9.

Why not add an option for us to select what we want, at least until an HD 16:9 is ready.  4:3 is really sucky.

Ageed.

now the 4:3 ratio looks scrunched and hard to read.   I would prefer a little stretched and able to read it, than what we have now.

Little off topic here but I just couldnt resist....

You know, back in Dec (or whenever the 1.7 came out), I watched as the boards here blew up with people complaining about the streteched out guide. People demanding that it be reverted back, threatening to cancel over this.

Now that they moved the guide back, now we get the people that liked the stretched guide wanting to know when its going to come back.

Perfect example of a no win scenario. Stretch it and you upset some people, not stretch it and you upset differnt people.

Just to get back on subject a little. The guide is going to eventually be set for the type of box. HD systems will show it in 16:9 and SD systems will show the 4:3. They are just working on the programs to make it work. The stretched guide before was a test to see what happened. It shouldnt be too much longer before it gets worked out and they get the HD guide truely working.

On subject...

How about they let us know (edit) they are going to do rather then change stuff all of a sudden, i mean come on its common customer courtesy. Its not only the guide they messed with also now my sound has been reduced.  Sorry I am just a tad bit annoyed with it.
