Fios DVR sound is garbled when using HDMI cable

When I connect the Fios DVR to our new TV using a new HDMI cable, the sound is garbled but when I use a component cable the sound is fine.  When I use the same HDMI cable to connect a Blu-Ray player the sound is fine.

What is wrong with the Fios DVR?

Report it to Verizon and ask for a new STP.
