Fios and Harmon Remotes unresponsive STB

I have the Motorola HD DVR QIP 7216-1 set top box. I use a Harmone 720 remote and the Verizon remote that came with the STB. After the last update that was done sometime prior in the year, none of my remotes work consistantly with the STB. It happens the most when browsing DVR  recordings menu but happens browsing other menus or just changing channels.

I called support about it yesterday(been living with issue) and they performed a reset of the box. After that didn't fix it, they are sending me a new remote.

I work in the computer industry and know that if two pieces of equipment have the same problem and the common thread is the STB. Then the problem lies with the STB.

You can stand right in front of the STB and use the remote and the STB doesn't respond. It's like it's thinking or something.

Anyone else have this issue.

There seems to be an epidemic of unresponsive remotes recently. The first thing to check for is IR interference emitted by the TV. Search this forum for "IR Interference" and look at the history of the topic and applied solutions. The first thing to try is to shield the IR sensor on the STB and see if the STB responds. Or try to make the STB respond with the TV off. Either way, it ought to at least eliminate one possible common cause for non-responsive remotes.
