Getting the DVR upgrade to 500GB

I've been a longtime FIOS customer.  Unfortunately, my DVRs often get full since they are the old ones with smaller hard drives and they don't accept external hard drives.  They only hold about 20 hours of HD programming.  My son just got FIOS at his new house and he got a much larger DVR (at no additional cost).  I can't believe it's going to cost me $100 to upgrade my 2 DVRs.

I tried the online chat to see if I could bring my DVRs into a Verizon store to exchange them for newer models but was told I couldn't.  It would actually be cheaper for me to cancel my Verizon service and then sign up again as a new customer.  How ridiculous is that?

I think it's ridiculous that I'm paying the same monthly rate as other customers who got the better box.  Why am I being punished for being a longtime customer? I'm getting ripped off here...this is not right!!!!

Not a good way to treat customers.  NOT HAPPY WITH VERIZON AT ALL!!!!

This isnt true. You sure can exchange them, but there is an upgrade fee.

Even when I got a new box for my house I was charged $20.

Online chat is useless. They really don't know anything on there so take anything that they say on there with a grain of salt.

If you have an older 6 series dvr then you can get a 7 series and you shouldnt be charged for it. I know Verizon was exchanging them for free before because the 6 series dvr's cant pull in mpeg 4 format for certain channels like NHL.

If you have a 7 series or the Motorola 7216 take it to the store and see if they'll at least exchange it for a 7216-2 which has the 500 gb drive in it if they wont give you a 7232. Try calling the store around you and see what they can do for you.
