Got FIOS and had to cancel - invitation to Verizon Tech

I switched to FIOS 10 days ago from Comcast and unfortunately had to cancel FIOS TV.
Reason is that 95% of the FIOS HD & Non-HD channels came in at probably 70% "worse" than Comcast.
Had techs out, exchanged boxes, hdmi cables to no avail. The signal was excellent according to the tech.

If it appears to be nothing in my house (since Comcast pic is perfect) could it possibly be "on the pole"?

I won't get into the extra $$ i'm paying by dropping the bundle i "had" with Verizon and picking up Comcast for the TV.

This is an invitation to Verizon gurus who enjoy a challenge:

Come to my house & compare Comcast to FIOS TV & figure out what the "problem" is with FIOS.

I've been waiting for a long time for FIOS to get into my neighborhood and have had Verizon DSL & Phone forever.

PS: I've tried everything that i found on the net to get the FIOS picture to work but nothing worked out.

Anyway, if you want a challenge & want to win back a customer.... this is your chance.

Regards,

John

Where are you located?  I found just the opposite in Central/North NJ.  FIOS is better than Comcast.

Good luck

I'm in PA at 19067.

Other people around me got Fios with no issues.

It's something to do with going to my house. I need a tech to i "think" concentrate on the outside line, not the inside.

Like i said, if they can fix it... they'll get a customer back.

I hope Verizon does but i have a feeling they're busy installing into new customers, not lost customers.... unfortunately.

Oh yea, my comcast hd box died friday night. I'm just having a wonderful time with tv.... NOT!

Well, I am not with Verizon, but 1 customer is not worth all the hoops you are making them go through. It costs them BIG BUCKS to provision a house onto FiOS. They won't do that just to retest. I think you are actually seeing wrong 😉 Verizon has NO compression, and Comcast does, and 'softens' the picture a bit. The eye will perceive a slightly softer picture as better due to less artifacts. An uncompressed picture will contain more artifacts coming through the HD 1080i, or 720p picture so it can look worse. The picture is not cleaned up by compress/uncompress filters.

They certainly won't benefit from the BIG BUCKS spent in provisioning a house if they don't spend a little time working out the kinks.  Hopefully, Verizon will get their act together on this customer since they do have a superior product.

It would help if you could be a bit more specific.

How does the FiOS picture look horrible?   Is it breakup, pixelization, or what?  Does it affect some channels or all channels?  If it is certain channels, which ones?

Is your Verizon box set to output 1080i?  What output are you using on the Verizon box?  Is it connected to the same input on your TV as the Comcast box (important because modern TVs store separate picture settings for every input)?

It's beginning to look like the issue may be inside.  If, as you said, you were getting a better pic b4 FiOS install, and now both FiOS and cable picture are degraded, it is possible that a piece of inside equipment has either:

1)  Gone Defective

2)  Been loosely connected, or

3)  Been replaced by defective equipment (a new splitter, for example, that is defective)

While it is possible that your fiber hasn't been cleaned properly, if a tech has tested  a good signal to the house, that should be ruled out.

Just want to point out a couple things:

1. The FIOS tech's should be able to tell you signal strength to the ONT on your house.  If your signal is strong there, you know its an inside wiring issue.

2. Whoever said "FIOS doesn't compress at all" is mostly correct, but if you really want to nitpick I believe that they do in fact transcode to MPEG4 and IPTV.    It isnt noticeable at all, but they certainly arent transmitting all data streams at 100 megabit per channel!

Cable is back to "normal" after replacing my replacement box. I'm happy now so i'm just going to stay with what i have (Comcast).

I called Verizon & asked them to come out but they wouldn't unless i bought the tv package again. I denied that wonderful offer.

Thanks all.
