HD channels "pixelizing"

We have had FIOS installed for 1 and a half weeks now, and every night, no matter what HD station we are watching freezes or pixelizes and the sound comes and goes.  When it does this, we reset the DVR, it works for a little bit then continues.  Calling Tech Support is no help, they reset the DVR, and say that it is probable the cable installation in the house.  When the FIOS installer checked the lines they all passed with high readings, this is the same cable that Cox cable was installed and we didn't have this problem.  I

Is there a solution or trick to make this stop?  We are about ready to switch back....

You need a service call.

Either the hard drive in your DVR is defective, or [more likely] you have a signal / install issue.

That is a cabling issue most likely...try to unscrew and screw the coax wire in the back of the cable box. If that doesnt help, try to do the same thing at the cable splitter.  If that fails, verizon will send a field tech to help troubleshoot the cabling in your house.

These are good recommendations.  A tech should be able to measure all the signals and set the signal stength correctly.  Be aware that a too-strong signal is as bad as a too-weak signal.  Both can cause picture break up.

How do you go about fixing too strong a signal ?

I have similar issue and I already replaced the coax with new cable from ONT and its only 40 feet so I'm thinking its not too weak.

Thanks.

They sell coax filters that will get the signal down.

You can get attenuators at various -db levels. TIVO boxes have been known to have real issues with to strong a signal. But I have not heard or it with the Motorola boxes.

My HD tv and HD DVR is about 20 feet from the ONT and the signal only goes through a splitter. Yes my ONT is in the basment on the other side of the wall. No issues here with the HD DVR. The SD box was having issues on my top floor which is three levels up and about 50-100ft run. I found loose strands from the coax shield that were in the connector and intermittantly shorting. If everything looks good I think you may need a tech to come out.

This HD pixelation and audio drop-out problem is clearly pretty widespread.. I've had the same issues since August 2008. That's right, AUGUST! I get irritating pixelation on various HD channels intermittently on both of my TVs. Tech support couldn't solve the problem over the phone. No amount of unplugging cables and resetting STBs is going to help.  I've had 4 technicians to my home. All the equipment is fine (STB, ONT, Cables, etc.). We even tried an attenuator for kicks. No luck.

Here's the thing. Two of the Verizon techs were nice enough to call me from the local office after they had left my home. They confirmed that they saw the same pixilation issues on the TV's in their local facility (I live in Northern NJ). So they established it was probably a feed issue. That was 3 months ago. I still have pixelation and audio drop outs on at least 8 HD channels. I've opened 5 separate tickets on this issue. And after a tech comes out and confirms that there's nothing wrong here, Verizon calls and says the ticket is now closed.

They're closing tickets even though the problem isn't being solved. So then I call again and all they want to do is send another tech out. It's a ridiculously infuriating cycle.  I'm pretty much at my wit's end here. It seems like Verizon is aware of the issue, but can't solve it. Has anyone with intermittent pixelation on their HD channels seen the problem stop completely? If so, can you please let me know how you were able to resolve this mystery. Thank you.

you can try adding your own attenuators.  here's a link to a 3dB one, with options for 6dB and 12dB down the page:

I'm  experiencing the same problem in Temple Hills, MD on 5 HD channels.  It has been happening since I had FiOS installed in December 2008.  After my tech tested all the equipment & cables in my home, he went to the CO and seen the same channel pixelations there.  Very frustrating to say the least.
