I have HD TV...a 40" screen. I'm watching "West Wing", it's says HD and I'm viewing in full screen. Some other shows like Maniac & Good Cop say HD 5.1 and I have the black bars on top & bottom. I also have this when I view a movie on Netflix and the aspect ratio button on the remote seems to be disabled while viewing Netflix. I find this MOST annoying, and wondering if it says HD 5.1 why I'm not getting full screen view on the TV. When TV shows say broadcast HD 5.1 I get full screen. I won't watch a show if it has those bars. Any thing I can do to fix this?

It is because the show like Manic was filmed in ultra wide 21:9 ratio. Since the HDTVs we have are 16:9 format you'll get letter letterboxing(black bars on top and bottom).
It not the FiOS Netflix widget. This will also occur on Netflix on other streaming devices like Firesticks, Rokus, and Apple TVs.

Thanks for your response I find it so frustrating, not to be able to adjust the aspect when viewing.
