I don't understand why these issues keep recurring?
After the the 12/1 handshake resolution i figured that the Samsung / Motorola HDMI issues were resolved but now I cannot get a signal with the HDMI connection and have to use component connection. And even with the component connection everytime I turn on the TV I have to change the video settings from 4:3 480p to 1080i each time.
Can this be an issue with the cable wire? the stb? or handshake? either way it is very frustrating.
Please help!!!!!!!. I love the service but I only switched over in October and I have been through (1) HD DVR box already and now this issue.

The HDMI handshake issue has been discussed a lot in many forums. I've had the same problems with a Samsung and a Sony. The 1.7 firmware fixed my issues. Out of curiosity, how old is the Samsung and have you checked for the latest (Samsung) firmware updates for that model? There were a couple of model years around 2008 that were particularly troublesome.

Hey Retiredme,
My Samsung is 5 years old it is the Model HLP6163W. I checked the Samsung website but at this time there are no updates.
The strange thing is that after the 12/1 firware update blew out my 1st HD DVR it was working fine with the HDMI cables with the exception that I had to reset my video settings from 720p to 1080i.
Then a little over a week ago while the TV was on the screen just went blank and I was unable to get a signal, I then replaced the HDMI cables, which worked for 5 minutes then I got no signal again. I then changed out the HDMI to the component cables. It works but now everytime I power up the TV I have to change the video settings from 480p to 1080i. And I also cannot use my surround sound due to the component cables take up the left & right audio inputs and the optical connection does not work on either the stb or the Yamaha reciever.
Oh the joy of electronics. Thanks for letting me ramble.

How do you get the 1.7 upgrade? My Motorola QIP-6416 is running v1.6.2. We are in the metro DC (northern Virginia) area if that makes a difference. Everything is being run through an Onkyo AV receiver with HDMI to a Samsung plasma. When I power everything on there is a brief (20-30 second) 'No Signal' message, but I have not seen any other issues with loss of picture. I am a bit concerned that an upgrade will degrade my service and dropping HDMI for component would be enough reason to drop FiOS.

Are you responding to my post? If so, the answer is 'yes' - the Onkyo TX-SR606 AV receiveer is the "hub" for my home theater which includes a Samsung PN50A450 plasma, Panasonic DVD player and Nintendo Wii.

I had an audio receiver in the mix but I had to take it out of the equation being that I had to use the audio with the component.
I also tried to install optical but that did not work.
