I've had FiOS for about 4 months and the only issue I had was an intermittent loss of the picture. I would play around with the HDMI connection behind the STB and it would come back. It didn't happen often, and the picture always came back. I have the HDMI cable running from the HD DVR box through my Denon 2809, along with all my other equipment.
Last week the picture didn't come back. I figured either the cable was bad all along and finally broke, or a problem with the HDMI port on the STB. I switched cables, still no signal. I switched inputs on the receiver, no signal. I used an S-video cable to make sure the box was still working and that worked fine. All the inputs on my receiver, and all my HDMI cables work fine with my blu-ray player. Also, everything works fine when connecting directly from the STB to the TV.
Has anyone had a similar problem? Any fixes for this, or should I just not use HDMI? I don't understand how all of a sudden the STB and my receiver would stop communicating. Any info would be great.
If that doesnt solve your issue, try running the HDMI directly to your TV. Then using optical coax from the STB to the Stereo receiver instead. Some times there is an issue with HDCP and stereo receivers.
Hi, thanks for the replies. I could not reset the STB online, it gave a message to try again later. I reset it manually and it still does not work. Do you know of any settings in the receiver that could be causing this?
I have no idea how this all of a sudden became an issue after working fine for months. I still can't figure out if its a STB issue, or a receiver issue. I guess I'll just move to component cables.
One more update. I changed the video resolution output on the STB to 480i and everything works. When I switch back to 720p or 1080i I get the same issue. Also when connecting from the STB directly to the TV now gives issues with the 720P or 1080i output, but works fine with 480i. I think this is an obvious issue with the STB, nothing at all changed with my system. I called Verizon to try to get them to come out and fix the problem but they're convinced that its a handshake issue and a new STB won't correct the problem.
I'm going to try to call again tomorrow.
