Hi, I am experiencing a problem with my external WD eSATA harddisk. The setop box was recognizing it perfectly and I was recording programs with no problem. Suddenly the DVR does not show the drive any longer. I tried unplugging and rebooting. Did not fix the issue. I need help: what should I do???

Go into the Verizon menu. Then go to CUSTOMER SUPPORT, then IN HOME AGENT. From here try first REBOOT STB. If that doesn't fix it try the SET TOP BOX AUTO CORRECTION. If that doesn't fix it try AUTO FIX COMMON DVR ISSUES. If you are still having troubles you would want to reach out to Western Digital so they can see if there's a problem with the drive itself.

I had the exact same thing happen and you aren't going to like the answer/solution. One day my eSATA just disappeared, the DVR no longer recognized it. I unplugged, rebooted, reset, reconnectedetc. etc. and nothing. So I thought it was a DVR issue , after working with Verizon Customer Care Verizon sent me another 7232. I connected the eSATA to the new 7232, alas still nothing, it was not recognized. Turns out it was not a DVR/FiOS issue, the eSATA went bad (after 12 stinking days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Western Digital eSATA's are junk. I contacted Western Digital and they sent me a new eSATA (if it is still under warranty they will replace it for free BUT you have to pay all shipping costs), I connected that and it works just fine (but I am holding my breath, it has been 11 days since I connect the new one).

If the eSATA is bad you need to contact that Western Digitial, NOT Verizon. If it is bad it is not a Verizon problem.

And the Verizon In Home Agent is pretty much useless, that did nothing except waste a lot of my time.

I had this exact problem.  I had to power down and power up my STB because, inexplicably, it quit sending content to my A/V receiver and TV.  I was getting flashing green lines or nothing at all.  Anyway, after I powered back up I could watch TV again and see recorded content on the DBR but my Western Digital eSATA drive was MIA.

The REBOOT STB solution worked perfectly!  What a relief as we had 50+ hours of content on the eSATA drive.

Now if someone could explain to me why periodically the STB goes on the fritz and requires a power down/power up that would be helpful.

My STB quits working several times a week, including dropping the external drive.  Here's the routine I have to follow:

1.  Reboot STB, either by menu if it still comes up or by unplugging the dvr from AC power for 20 seconds.

2.  Check DVR to see if drive is detected, if not then i have to tell the dvr to use an external drive and then it reboots again.

3.  Check DVR to see if drive is detected again, if not, do step two again until drive is found and programs are listed.

I have to do this 2 or 3 times a week.  The FiOS dvrs are cheap boxes with poor programming controlling them.  It will take Verizon several years of updates before they learn what Dish and DirecTv have already learned.
