Help with problem hooking my Sylvania dvd/vcr combo to Motorola STB and my Insingia HD TV!

Hello there,

even though I thought that Verizon support team will help me, they didn't. I can't watch any video from my Sylvania dvd/VCR combo because I only get black and white video without any audio. I checked already the connecton and they look o.k but can't figurate where the problem is. Anyone with the same problem?

Here's the most common setup:

-Connect coax (cable) from the wall to the STB - obvious.

-Connect HDMI cable from the STB to the TV - obvious as well. Turn your TV to its HDMI input to watch regular TV.

-Connect composite (red, yellow, white) cables from the output on the STB to the input on the DVD player.

-Connect composite cables from the output on the DVD player to the input on the TV.

In order to watch a DVD or VHS, turn your TV to its composite input, which sometimes is labeled "video"

In order to record something to DVD (if it's a DVD recorder) or VHS, you will need to turn your DVD/VCR to its "input" channel, so that it's receiving whatever's being outputted from the STB. Then you will need to turn your STB to whatever channel you want to record, and then hit record on the DVD/VCR. You can't change the channel on the STB, and keep in mind it will also record any on-screen STB graphics that come up, like the channel guide. You don't need to have your TV on while you're recording.

Make sure you connect the AV cables from the Audio output and composite video output  or S-VHS on the STB to the Audio input and composite or S-VHS input  on the DVD/VCR, and the  cables also need to run from the Audio and Video output of the DVD/VCR to the Audio and Video inputs on the TV set. Red and White connectors are audio, yellow is composite video. Many Motorola Boxes have AV inputs as well as outputs, and if you connect to an input you will get no audio.

IF you are not using HDMI, (i.e. Component video), you will need a Y cable for the Audio, because there is only 1 set of Audio output connections on the STB. The Y cable will allow the STB  audio out to be connected to both the DVD/VCR and your TV at the same time.

Many devices these days have multipe input and output connections available. Make sure that you haven't for example connected the video to input 1, while the audio is connected to different input on the TV. My TV for example has component Video as well as 2 independent AV inputs.

Can you describe in detail for us every cable you have running from the wall to the the STB and dvd/vcr combo and TV and include the name which is on each input/output?  (if you can unplug the cable and tell us the color of the little piece in the center of each plug (yellow, red, white, blue, green, etc.) that would also be helpful.   Just walk us thru each connection and I think someone here will be able to spot what's wrong.

I think it's simply a case of having something not quite plugged in right.
