Home Media DVR on other than Media Manager

I am about to get a multi room DVR and want to use it to also access our extensive music and photo library. The way I have it organized has all the media files sitting on a central server that supports uPnP and other standards. That server is running 24/7. My Windows machines are not.

My question is whether I can use the DVR without the Media Manager which needs to be installed on a Windows machine?

What standards does the Home media DVR need or support?

Thanks,

Steve from NJ

Sadly, you must use the media manager in order to get music and photos onto your DVR.  I have not heard of a way around it yet, if you find out let us know!

I wish it would get uPnP streams, but it doesnt. I use my 360 or PS3 to pick them up myself.

Steve,

Please be aware of the problems with the MR-DVR.  You will have considerable problems if you plan to watch recorded shows on a HD-STB somewhere else in the house.  If you can get through the first 10 minutes without an HUB error message, you'll still have problems when you try to FF or skip.  And despite the promise that 1.6.1 would fix the problems, we are learning that it hasn't.  I would avoid the MR-DVR at this point - you'll simply be paying for constant frustration.
