Hooking up Fios TV

Every set of directions for setup of FIOS TV simply says to run Coax from Wall Jack to set box.  WHAT if you have no wall jack!!!!  Where do I add a splitter?   right before the modem?

Fios uses a router. If you have an existing installation, and need an additional wall jack or connection, you would need a cable run back to the router, or install an bi-directional splitter to split the existing coax to get an another TV outlet.

Are you preparing for a FiOS installation?

If you only have Internet and you are doing a self install, yes you would install a bi-directional splitter in the coax right before the router, and the run a new cable to the TV location. If you are getting TV for the first time, I would suggest not doing a self install, and having a tech visit, since it is a service upgrade, or adding a service, I do not believe there is a charge for the tech visit.

Verizon will install a bi-directional splitter that will handle communications in both directions from the Set Top Box or Digital Video Recorder, to the router and optical network terminal. The STBs and DVRs need to communicate in both directions, so the older type standard splitters will not work. It is best to have RG-6 coax all run back to a single location to prevent signal loss. But I have heard that older RG-59 coax cable will work, if you do not need multiple splitters. You would want the best possible signal to your TV hardware, and with older cable and multiple splitters, you would have a higher signal loss.
