I'm trying to connect my Motorola QIP6200 STB to my computer via firewire so I can watch TV in Windows Media Center. Please note: I am NOT doing this for DVR functionality. I am doing this because my Gateway FHD2400 monitor's Faroudja video processor cannot properly deinterlace 1080i video (it discards half the resolution meaning I get 1920x540 resolution). What I want to do is use the Avivo video processing on my PC's ATI Radeon 4770 graphics card. I've installed the ExDeus Motorola STB Firewire driver (http://home.comcast.net/~exdeus/stbfirewire/) under 32-bit Windows Vista SP 2 but Windows Media Center says it can't find any TV tuner hardware. It doesn't matter whether I'm watching a local channel (channels 2-12) or a premium channel. Does ANYONE know how to get video over firewire? I don't have the space for a larger monitor and I can't afford a $10,000 outboard video processor to fix the problem my monitor has.
AFAIK, Firewire output on cable channels is 5C encrypted and not viewable with a computer. You should be able to view liveTV from local channels if the appropriate driver is installed (FireSTB or the ExDeus pack).
If you've carefully followed the directions on the linked site, I'm not sure what else to tell you. You might see if you can view the Firewire output on a local channel using VLC.
