Here some more detail about how a FiOS ONE system is setup with 1Gb Internet:

Verizon ONT:

Coax: Linear TV output (i.e. channels)

Ethernet: WAN internet connection, links to Verizon router WAN port.

Verizon Router:

Ethernet WAN: Internet connection from ONT WAN port

Coax: MoCA LAN root for set-top-boxes and other MoCA devices.

Ethernet LAN: Ports for hardwired LAN devices

WiFi: well, you know, WiFi LAN

VMS4100:

Coax: Linear TV channels from ONT

Coax: MoCA LAN from router for data communication, on-demand, guide, etc.

Ethernet port: Disable, can't be used for anything.

VMS4100 (mini):

Coax: MoCA LAN for streaming TV (from VMS100) data communication, on-demand, guide, etc.

Ethernet: Alternate to MoCA LAN for all services.  Must connect to one of the router's LAN ports.  Cannot be used for other devices .

WiFi: Another alternate to MoCA LAN for all services.  Uses a hidden network on the Verizon router.

You don't. The VMS has to connect to the ONT via Coax to receive live TV. The IPC units can go with Ethernet or wireless.

what's the IPC units? different kind of STB?

I have the 1gb connection and the ONT is connected to the quantum router via ethernet, NOT coax. I've read this can be done, the setting just needs to be changed in the STB to turn on the ethernet jack. Can this be done by end users, or does verizon have to do it?

thanks.

You need coax connected to the VMS and the router. The IPCs can be connected by ethernet or coax.

VMS is the big Fios one box, IPC is the small, or mini Fios one box. The VMS has to have a coax connection, the small one can go ethernet or WI-FI.

I only have the smaller box, not the larger multiroom DVR system.

I thought I read that these boxes can use ethernet OR coax, but that verizon has to make the change for you. I was asking if anyone knows how to do it without them since it's nearly impossible to get a tech support person on the phone or chat.

The VMS 4100, otherwise known as the Fios 1 box is much smaller than the original

box. The IPC 4100 or mini is even smaller. You can't have only a mini as they need the VMS box to supply them with content. You can only use Ethernet or wi-fi with the mini.

So the only way to get a hard wire Ethernet connection out of a 4100 is to use the Mini version is what I read here.  I need to connect a PC at the same location as the TV and Verizon box and I was hoping to use a Moca so when I saw the RJ45 port in the 4100 I thought it had MoCa built in.  According to this post that is not the case for the larger box 4100.  The small box 4100 Mini has MoCa?  Correct?  If so is this easy to configure for this need?
